Re: NV Real Companhia Velha Porto Quinado Port -- Mais 60 Anos

I had to look to see if this category was represented anywhere at all. Here is what I found: http://www.wine-searcher.com/find/quinado

I also typed Quinado into Cellar Tracker, and an old madeira was the only entry: http://www.cellartracker.com/classic/wi ... ne=2300664

Re: What Douro wine have you purchased this week...

Scooped the last 3 bottles of Niepoort Docil 2013 at my local Binny's for $8 apiece. I'm sure there are other locations around Chicagoland that have this end of bin sale going. Get at it, Chicago peeps.

Re: 2009 Quinta de Gomariz Alvarinho

There was a bit of a dropoff on the second night. More oxidative for sure. I don't mind an oxidative note, but as the wine warmed up it became especially prominent. There was a bit of a petillance on the first night, also, and that was definitely gone on night two, as one might expect.

2009 Quinta de Gomariz Alvarinho

Flickinger's marked it down to $2 per bottle during their recent blowout sale. How could I resist? I came in expecting nothing. What happens when Alvarinho ages? There wasn't a lot of info out there about it. What I noticed more with this versus a younger Alvarinho was that this had a sweetness to i...

Re: The Rise & Fall of the Euro

The Euro has traded in the narrowest range since January 2015, with a lot of head fakes thrown in for good measure. The chart is daring people to buy it right now.

Re: The Rise & Fall of the Euro

How much subsidy do Portuguese wine producers receive from the EU? I ask because if it's a real amount and it's gone, that could affect retail prices going forward.

Koch Wine Cellar Auction at Sotheby's

http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/201 ... 09485.html

I see a number of lots of port that begin with lot 1801. Looks like that would fall towards the end of tomorrow's (Friday's) portion of the auction. If there's any madeira being offered, I didn't see it.

Re: TN: 2005 Chryseia Douro Red

Andy, I saw this happen with my bottles of 2003 Quinta dos Roques Reserva from the Dao a few years back. I caught this stuff in a very disjointed phase. As luck would have it, the last bottle showed signs of emerging life. I think the common thread between my experience and yours is that these were...

Re: TN: 2005 Chryseia Douro Red

Andy, do you think there is a dumb phase happening, or is this really the end of the line for this wine? I'm curious as to whether or not Douro reds close down like VP's do, and if there is good mature phase to be had after that.

Re: Keith Emerson found dead @ 71

I'm a little late here on this. Roy, you might want to check out a young blind lady playing a bunch of ELP's material if you haven't yet done so (Tarkus on Emerson's Moog here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLT3Cb96-Mk There are many more of her videos besides this one. Pretty inspiring stuff.

I have 1985 Fonseca. I can probably locate other producers around here if it's easier for someone else to bring Fonseca.

Re: ATTN: Chicago area Port Lovers

Hi, sorry I missed this earlier, and then when Roy emailed me I had just gone away for a week. Anyway, I'm certainly up for whatever. It would be fun to meet all of you. Let me know what I need to do and what to bring, and I'll be there. Thanks for the heads up, Roy.

I"d think the current inventory that was purchased this way would have to be grandfathered in. Is that not the case here?

It's still trading in the range. This latest up move is a bounce off the support.

Re: What's the best Douro white grape?

Of the six grapes mentioned in the article, the only one I've tried as a single varietal is Arinto, by Prova Regia from the Bucelas region. Lots of lemon, I remember. Pretty inexpensive. Good summer wine. Fun to try.

Why now?
The Fed is more likely to start raising rates soon, which means relative strength of the dollar versus other currencies increases.
