Re: 1985 Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port
Interesting! I thought that the Crasto brand only started in the 90's...Do you know the story behind this? The back label says they were imported by Broadbent Imports (which is no longer their importer). A friend found them in 2009 in Las Vegas for $33.00/each. Other than that, I don’t know the sto...

1985 Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port
Initially decanted about 4 hours, with a couple glasses leftover for the next day. Lighter in color with bricking. Very viscous and sweet with bing cherries and licorice. The tannins are fully resolved. A medium slightly warm finish is short on acidity to temper that sweetness. A rather delicate VP ...

Porto Protocol Video
There's a new youtube video talking about the impact of the changing climate on wineries. Mostly non-Portuguese wineries, but does have Taylor's in it. Haven't watch it all yet, it's about 40 minutes.

Re: What have you opened this week?
Not sure what I will open, but I need to open something soon. In the past 14-ish hours we've gotten over 7" of rain at the house here in So. Cal. and it's forecast to continue the next few days. Thankfully less once today is over with.

Re: thick rubber/plastic capsules
I've had very good luck with them sealing. Even had a few leakers that I didn't know was a leaker until the capsule came off. They do seem to seal very well. Does take awhile to get the hang of getting them off without slicing your hand off (kidding, they're not that bad).

Good to know. I’ve got a few more of these so I’ll set a couple aside to age more. Thanks.Frederick Blais wrote:I'm a big fan of this. The Bairrada wines can age so slowly with their acidity and thight but fine tannins. I had the 2012 recently and it still can age.
Let's see!

Re: first auction bids
I try to keep my comments off the internet for the most part. I’ve been watching port for a long time and only in the last few years started to get serious about collecting now that I’m a little more settled in my job and not moving around so much. Congrats on getting settled into your job and plea...

TN: 2016 Niepoort Poeirinho Bairrada
2016 Niepoort, 100% Baga grape from their Quinta de Baixo vineyards. 11.5% abv. Very delicate cherries with a tannic backbone. Shy at first, then opens up with air but still retains that restrained fruit profile. Best comparison would be old world Pinot Noir from long ago. Deceivingly long finish ju...

Quinta de Santa Eufemia 30 Year Old White Port
Bottled 2017. Bought June 2017 at the Quinta. Viscous apricots are balanced by marked acidity on the palate. That sweetness turns into a dusty old wood dryness as it transitions to a very long finish. A remarkable mix of two different profiles wrapped into one. This is now throwing some light sedime...

Re: 1964 Dow's Reserve Port -- Colheita
Port rarely "falls off the edge" like dry wine can do. However, it tends to get rather soft and cloying and loses that sharpness it had when bottled. I also find the super fine sediment that makes an old bottling cloudy affects the mouthfeel, and not in a good way for me. Makes the texture...
