Roy, One last idea. See if you can work with Eric at Cellartracker to cross reference your database of tasting notes with his. Whenever someone reads a tasting note for a port or wine you have a tasting note for your note would be displayed in the same area that Steven Tanzer's notes are displayed. ...

Hi Roy, I just came across this thread. Hopefully I'm not too late to be placed in the running for that bottle. Here are a few ideas on how to increase the circulation of your newsletter: 1. Create a condensed, one page, version of the newsletter that you can send to wine stores across the country i...

I like to take the labels off of bottles and paste them in a scrap book. Ever since moving into my house about 4 years ago though I just haven't had the time to take the labels off so the bottles get set on the sill of a window then when that gets full moved up to the attic. There are more bottles u...

Hi Stuart,

I'm going to have a bottle of 1985 Fonseca after Christmas dinner. I was thinking of 1985 Grahams but I just received those today and they're all shaken up.

I do like the fancy wooden box, book, and ceramic markers but I voted for the cheap cardboard box and 8 bottles vs. fancy wood box and 6 bottles because I can't drink the fancy wooden box.

Roy, Thanks for the tips. I edited my original post to reflect them. I think you may be right about the Madeira. I really love the stuff so may have been a little overzealous in assigning points. I'm not budging from 94 points though :) I'm looking forward to reading your notes on this event. I'm pa...

Multi: Notes from a recent Vintage Port tasting

SWS PORT TASTING - Seattle, WA (12/11/2005) First of all, many thanks to Chuck Miller for hosting this event. I'd also like to thank everyone that participated and for bringing such nice bottles of wine to share. The theme this month was mature vintage port, 1985 and older. Being relatively new to ...

Steven,

I have not tried a Moscatel from Setubal. I'll keep an eye out for it and pick one up if I ever come across it. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Roy, I should probably explain the "very good" at the end of my taste note. I copied this note from cellar tracker which assigns "very good" 85 points and "excellent" 89 points. My gut feel tells me this wine is somewhere around 85 points which is where the "ver...

1996 Quinta do Portal Moscatel Reserva

I asked my wine store for something that goes well with pumpkin pie and this is what they suggested. I've been looking for different things to taste so I took them up on their suggestion. This is made like a vintage port except instead of using the the usual blend of port grapes the wine is made fro...

I've always enjoyed Taylor's 10 year tawny but it sounds like there are better alternatives out there. I'll have to add some of the suggestions here to my list of 20 year tawnies to try.

I'm curious, since you're in the Seattle area, where you have found any kind of selection available? Most places I shop for wine wouldn't have what I call a large selection of 20 year tawnies available. McCarthy & Schiering in Ravenna usually has Taylor and Fonseca and sometimes one or two othe...

Favorite 20 Year Tawny?

In the past I usually went for the 10 year tawny ports but lately I've been trying the 20 year tawnies. I've tried two so far, Taylor and Fonseca. Here's my note for the Taylor 20 year tawny: Tawny colored with just a hint of red and good clarity. Nice nose of caramel, dates, figs, wood, dried fruit...

Thanks for all the responses. garrafeiranacional.com certainly has some good things at fair prices but shipping is very expensive to Seattle, WA which makes the price not so attractive. My B-Day isn't till August so I have plenty of time to find some bottles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try to track down the Niepoort or Noval 1976 Colheita. I was lookin on wine searcher for sauturne. 1976 Yquem seems to be around $600 to $700. I think I'll save my pennies and get a bottle of that for my 40th.

1976 Colheita

I'm looking for some wines to drink on my 30th birthday next year. A colheita or a sauturne seem to be my best bet, but the sauturnes are a little more than I want to spend. Any ideas on a reasonably priced 1976 colheita? "Reasonably priced" being defined as less than $150 per bottle in th...

Re: YOUNG OR OLD .... how do you prefer to drink your Port?

Do you have any preference? If so, please explain what it is that you love about either. My preference is to drink whatever vintage port is placed in front of me :D More seriously, I really enjoy vintage ports that are 20 to 30 years old. They still have quite a bit of fruit and lose much of the ta...

TN: 1999 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva

This is my first experience with Douro table wine. I enjoyed this wine and will likely be trying other Douro table wines. Here's a little note on it: Dark red. Nice fruit. The aromas are a little like a young vintage port but not as intense. On the palate there are nice, well rounded tannins, good a...
