Re: Premier Cru warning

I think Dante had it right in The Inferno when he placed those who committed fraud and treachery on a lower level of hell than even those who were violent and murderous toward another human. I think Daihachiro Ishida and his investors need to fly to Berkeley, find John Fox out on the street and &quo...

Re: Dec. 2015: Your best Port tasted this year?

I hope by listing my #1 for the year BEFORE the year ends, I'll jinx myself and actually taste a better port sometime in the next 11 days. Barring that miracle, my #1 for the year was a 1955 Graham VP. Runner up was a Sandeman 40yr tawny, and in 3rd was the 1992 Quevedo tawny that Glenn was kind eno...

Re: 2016 FTLOP Madeira get together

Looking through the names on this thread so far, we might be having a partial Madeiraton reunion in Seattle! I think we should do a Blandy's vertical that culminates with a special bottle that Roy procures from Chris' Family's stock of Demijohns. Roy, you have that kind of relationship with Chris, r...

Re: Premier Cru warning

Andy, Glenn and Moses, thank you for your advice. Andy, the charge was not on a "pre-arrival" but actual wine that was listed as "in-stock" when I placed the order. I let them hold the wine to wait for an appropriate weather shipping window as we had a very hot summer all over th...

Re: Premier Cru warning

An update on my PC situation: I received my refund check from PC at the beginning of December and deposited it. The check bounced, and I was just notified by my bank that I've been fined $12.00 for depositing a check with non-sufficient funds. What would you guys advise me to do at this point? Take ...

Re: Premier Cru warning UPDATE!

The only problematic thing is that they said they were issuing me a refund for $64.99. I don't recall the Krohn's '76 ever being that cheap when I purchased it this summer during the 40 yr Tawny tasting weekend. Does anyone remember what the sale price of that Krohn was during that weekend? Accordi...

Re: Premier Cru warning UPDATE!

Hmmm, this is really interesting timing. I called Premier Cru on Oct. 24th to ask that they ship out the colheita ports I purchased from them over the summer. They told me that they wouldn't be able to get everything together in time for the shipping window on Oct. 27th but that they could ship out...

Re: Premier Cru warning

Andy, I also want to put out a major "thank you" to you for taking the time to post a warning for all of us. I remember this summer how some people were already voicing concerns with wine futures ordered from Premier Cru...and I remember thinking, "well that sucks for people who order...

Re: Did you have any NEW Madeira epiphany this year?

I don't think this constitutes an "epiphany" but I learned that Blandy's can actually be a "good value" if you buy older releases as opposed to the current stuff. On the Madeirathon tour, I felt that most of the Blandy's bottlings we tasted were very overpriced with the exception...

Re: What Portuguese wines have you opened this week

Andy,

Its not the basic Quinta de la Rosa Douro red. It's a Costco Exclusive (at least up here in Seattle) and its actually the 2011 Estate Red. Excellent! I'm heading to costco to rummage for a few more bottles...

New cockpit footage of Funchal landing...

Hey guys and gals, I was on Jalopnik today getting my automotive news fix, when I saw that they linked a video with a cockpit view landing at Funchal taken by British Airways. Great views that I didn't get to enjoy looking out the side of the plane on my landing. There are some additional videos on ...

Re: What Portuguese wines have you opened this week

I'm drinking a 2011 Quinta de la Rosa that I bought on impulse at the checkout counter at McCarthy and Sheering. It was inexpensive but the McCarthy store is so small that they won't bother stocking a wine if they don't like it. It's been knocking my socks off for the last two nights. Juicy, with a...

Re: So AFTER the 1985 tasting ... what should we do next?

Colheita's are an area I'd really like to explore in serious depth. 40yr tawnies would also be fun, but I suspect it would be a more subtle and challenging.

Re: 1985 horizontal, Seattle, Jan 24-25 2015

Personally, I'm moved by the generosity of Marc and Sean C. for contributing their bottles despite not being able to attend. Maybe we can orchestrate a conference call during one of the breaks to say "thank you."

Re: 1970 Taylor Vintage Port

Andy, Thanks for reading my tasting note and chiming in. You have a ton of experience, so its great to hear your opinion on this one. The Taylor was really delicious, I think I was being a bit conservative at 92 and would probably put it closer to 93-94 points in retrospect. If I was going to open a...

1970 Taylor Vintage Port

Things got a little crazy during a client wine event I cohosted at my wine storage facility, and some people were asking for a dessert wine. My wine storage locker was less than 30 feet away and with the holidays upon us, it seemed like a good time to drink some VP. It isn't often that I make it hom...
