Re: Will the plummeting Euro effect Port pricing?
I think it will affect prices of future releases more directly. The changes to the overall pricing matrix will happen a bit more slowly. Europe is beginning to experience deflation now, also, and that will also have an effect on pricing.

Well I guess that settles it. Not sure what caused me to think that.

A little auction history: 1912 Graham: http://wineprices.vinfolio.com/do/wineprices/detail/1912_graham-s-vintage-port?vintage.wine.id=51231&vintage.year=1912 Other 1912 VPs: http://wineprices.vinfolio.com/do/wineprices/search (I typed in 1912 Vintage Port in the search window) I am not seeing mu...

I know the Euro was trading below parity when we went to Portugal in 2007.

Re: The growing price appreciation of old Vintage Port
How much of the appreciation is due to being a 50th birthday special occasion bottle, or any other birthday in that age bracket for that matter? 1966 seems to be rising in anticipation of the 50 year mark, and 1970 is moving a bit more slowly. Colheitas from 1964 were released and priced for the occ...

Re: 2014: The BEST Portuguese table wine(s) you have consumed this year?
I haven't had too many new ones this year, but one that really stood out to me, and I mentioned it in one of the other threads here, was the 2012 Chasing Harvest Douro DOC Vinho Branco, which is described at their website: http://www.chasingharvest.com/the-wines/ I tried their 2010 Tinto and it was ...

Re: TN: 2004 Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas Reserva Especial Douro
Is this the first instance of such a pattern of shutting down that you've seen in Douro reds? I'd have to wonder which Douro grapes do the most shutting down, and what is in the blend for this particular wine. It's kind of interesting because we don't have a long history from which to draw for these...

Re: TN: 2004 Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas Reserva Especial Douro
I went to Cellar Tracker and took a look at the notes there, also. It seems like a recurring theme in the notes, that a wave of lower ratings happen after a certain point. I did see that one of the much earlier vintages had some favorable recent notes, though. Did you decant this at all? The other r...

Re: TN: 2000 Chryseia Douro
Andy, I just looked in the database and saw that you gave this wine 93 points about 7 years ago. Do you recall that particular bottle at all? Would you say that the jury is out on how well Douro reds will age over time, as there isn't a track record like in other established regions? I went through ...

Re: DOMINIC SYMINGTON
Dominic, Thanks again for answering my questions so graciously. I hope none of my questions came off the wrong way. I would also like to congratulate you and everyone at SFE for the honors bestowed by Wine Spectator. We always talk about how the Douro table wines don't get the recognition they deser...

Re: DOMINIC SYMINGTON
HI Dominic, Thanks so much for answering the questions I posed earlier. I just thought of another question for you. Obviously your company is going to be part of any decision by the port trade to generally declare a vintage. There seems to be an unwritten rule about three generally declared vintages...

Re: DOMINIC SYMINGTON
Hi Dominic, I've enjoyed reading your responses. I have a few questions from the business side of things: 1) I am curious about the strategy of having numerous port houses under one umbrella. I realize that initially, a house can be improved by much needed capital infusions and proven management sav...

Andy, here's the website for Chasing Harvest: http://chasingharvest.com/the-story.html I don't know how much availability there is outside of Chicago. I have tried both the branco and tinto. The branco was awesome. They age it on the lees, even. The tinto, I did a pop and pour last time, which was a...

Re: Movies with Port?
I didn't see the movie, but is there some kind of symbolism involved by breaking a nonexistent vintage bottle? A throwaway bottle, so to speak?

Re: 1958 Taylor QdV
How much life would a 1958 LBV have in it now? I see it traded at $215, and I gather with no buyer's premium. 1958, does anybody here have an opinion on that vintage? It's not mentioned very often, anyway. The crude pricing matrix here: http://www.wine-searcher.com/find/porto+vintage/1958/-/-/x?Xfro...

Re: Vintage Porto Pocas 2011 at WTSO
I think it's a function of the economy recovering, albeit slowly, over the past few years. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have the same access to the same level of stuff that they had before. Nowadays I see that same damn CdP offered for $20 or so over and over again. There's always a deal so...
