None. This tragedy is a night for sober reflection.

Re: My Barrel Port has turned to syrup.....

If I read this correctly, The port itself tastes awesome but . Ok I get that it's way too thick or strong or whatever, but it tastes awesome to him. Port reduction sauces are wonderful, Port Sabayon would be great, Port poached pears, fantastic. The last thing you should do is throw it out, repurpos...

Re: TN: N.V. Rare Wine Co. Madeira Imperial Malmsey Old Reserve; Producer: Henriques & Henriques

Madeira is something that has always been used in the finest culinary sauces but I had found no need to drink any of it. Now that I've been further educated, I decided we should have a few bottles around. So I started with this one. I found it at auction at a good price. Cheers [cheers.gif]

Re: 1964 Krohn Colheita Branco port

I've got one bottle left and it's going soon, hope it shows as well as the last one did. Is there any more of this left in the wood? Did Taylor acquire it by chance? So perhaps a new bottling soon, but if so at a much higher price. Spectrum Auctions has 4 bottles listed, opening bid $1K. These are n...

Re: Favorite Recent Fonseca

'85 is the best by far, but I'd rather drink the 1970 (one of my all time favorites) and wait on the 1985. The '85 Fonseca may turn out to be better than the 1948! I have yet to try one of my 1970 Fonsecas, but at twice the price of the '85's, I'm saving them for special occasions. I feel the '85 o...

1985 Rocha Colheita, bottled 1995. All I can say at this point is that it is a new experience for me.

Re: buying Warre's 1963

The 1963 Warre's was along with the 1970 Graham's selected by Symington to be released from their cellars in ....2011. Could this be one of those bottles? Perhaps. Originally released in a wooden box http://www.thevintageportsite.com/stati ... ar_VPS.JPG

Please explain? The two dates appear to be different and upon reading the links it states for Trade and Media only for both events. Is there some way we qualify?

Re: London stopover recommendations

If we're hoping to do anything in London, we always schedule to arrive on the last possible flight of the evening so that we "can't make the connection" that day and can instead fly back to the US the following day. Then we get an overnight and can meet people for drinks/whatever. This is...

Re: London stopover recommendations

A couple of years ago we had a 8-9 hour layover in London. It was enough time to take the tube down to the British Museum and toodle around for a few hours. We then walked over to Neal's Yard and visited the famous cheese monger. Great stuff, then walked over to the Opera Tavern for some Iberico Jam...

What I have noticed about the Sandeman 30yo over the 20yo is layers of complexity. The depth is wonderful to me and makes 30yo tawnies "just right".

Re: 1997 Weinbach Gewurztraminer SGN

Navarro has produced a "Deep End" blend of Riesling of 2014 that they call Vendange Tardives. Picked @ 24.8 Brix it exceeds the specs for a Riesling VT. They then fermented down to 1.6% RS and 13.7 % ABV. I'm waiting for my shipment to arrive this week to see if I want to order more. The A...

I was thinking the same thing, however it's tough finding a '81 as for the most part, it was not a good year for wines. I suppose a Colheita is about the best I can hope for.

Re: 1997 Weinbach Gewurztraminer SGN

Pear tart, Tarte Tatin, or even a Creme Brulee if not too sweet. Foie Gras? Not in California I'm afraid. I have noticed that the Alsatian versions of Late Harvest (VT/SGN) are not as sweet as either the Austrian/German or American versions. I noticed 12.5% for the SGN. So yes they are starting with...

Re: 1996 Malat Kremstal RheinRiesling TBA

Sounds wonderful. I have not had that blend before. How much longer do you think it would have held on? The last TBA I had was a Rulander from '85 and it was far over the hill. However I still hold out hope for the '81 Ortega that I bought many years ago to open on our 50th anniversary.

Me either, I could not find any info on it and it was attached to the '63 Taylor, along with the '85 Rocha and Kopke 30yo.. When I eventually get to a FTLOP tasting, it's yours.

1985 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

Decanted 4 hours. Cork came out clean, lots of sediment. 60% opaque and a bit thin. Nose was perfumed with strawberry fruit and a touch of spirit. On the palate it was clear that 4 hours was not enough time and I waited another hour to take notes. It had picked up a bit of weight but reminded me mor...
