Re: 1982 Presidential (Dalva) Colheita port

That sounds wonderful. Even if though I’ve not run into one that tops the 1952, I can’t think of an older Dalva white colheita that I haven’t really enjoyed. Glad this one was singing!

TN: Concieto 2015 Douro Red Wine

Purchased on closeout recently for $35. 14% ABV Appearance: Inky black, dark and brooding. Nose: Dark berry fruits, fresh forest-y notes, a bit of game. Palate: Enters with with blackberry and currant, braced with stern tannin, a middle full of earthy berries and a hint of violet, and a close of sou...

Forrester 1896 VP

Recently saw a loose acquaintance post a picture of a bottling and shipper I’ve never seen before, and doesn’t seem to be reflected in either the database here, nor in Julian Wiseman’s “Port Vintages”. I’d guess it’s a brand associated with Baron JJ Forrester, but that’s just a guess. Anyone with an...

Wow, nicely done indeed. Let us know how it is, and if the cork gives anymore detail!

Re: What is the BEST Port you have consumed in 2020

Ended up opening less wine this year, as there were many fewer people coming by to share it with. Still managed some very tasty bottles though (and small silver lining, less guests meant my wife and I drank most of them, haha) Top tawny: S Leonardo “60” Top VP: Dow 1985 Sent from my iPhone using Tap...

1994 Warres VP

Imported ex-cellars in 2018. Decanted 4 hours. No bricking, but starting to soften in color at the edge. Raspberries, flowers, and a purple heirloom tomato-y note that I’m struggling to describe in a different way on the nose. Enters with plenty of fresh berry fruit, moving to more spiced berry comp...

These sound amazing. I only own a single bottle, but I’m excited to crack it in the future by all of these notes!

Popped a 20y Burmester Tawny. Now that things are getting warmer in Texas, time to switch back to the tawny stuff again.

I’ll never forget his articles in Decanter. They exuded a love of wine in a way that few can match in print.

1997 Ferreira VP (375ml)

Past prime in the half, but also appears to have not been stored well judging from the shop in Houston it was purchased at, as well as the cork. It was only $14.99 Nose: rotting leaves, desiccated red fruits jam, baking spices. Palate: stewed red fruits, moving into baked strawberry tart, and closin...

@Luc, help us interpret what this means for the big Portuguese wine regions’ winters. From my basic interpretation, it would seem like the Douro has had a wetter winter thus far?

Arguably my favorite of the 1980 VPs, glad it showed well. In a year that seemed to lack adequate stuffing for the true VP long haul, this one hasn’t let me down.

Port Barrel Sizes

I was always under the impression that virtually all the maturing of Port in barrel came in “pipe” size barrels. I was drinking some Port barrique matured Scotch earlier, which led me down an Internet rabbit hole that brought me to the conclusion that, while customary, the pipe is not nearly the onl...

Re: 1995 Smith Woodhouse Madalena Vintage Port

While I haven’t had much SW from ‘95, I definitely agree with the sentiment the vintage in general is drinking well and should be consumed. It’s not getting any better.
