Re: FLYING WITH CORKSCREWS

Here here!
What do you think the chances are of that?
Sure would make the SF tasting easier and less risky with a couple of expensive bottles in my checked bag.

Re: Madeira Tasting in San Francisco - Tentative for May 2013

Booked my flight too (solo). Thanks for link to the Air Canada sale Alan. Ended up on United though, I try to only fly direct and plan to arrive on Wednesday 15 but go up to Napa/Healdsburg for first few days and then back in town for the weekend then home on 21st. Managed to get return for $475.00 ...

Llyn Strelau will come to both. Sooner we can confirm a date the better for getting better flight deals.

Re: One shot wonder

Roy the article simply inspired immense jealousy! (At least in me).
World of Fine Wine is a superb publication and the perfect venue for the tasting you wrote about

May there be many more articles. Maybe the tasting in May in San Francisco!!

Re: Madeira Tasting in San Francisco - Tentative for May 2013

I like the idea of two events as well. Rare bottles are exciting to taste and part of my education about Madeira and tasting a selection of less stratospheric wines would help to identify 'everyday' wines.

Would also help justify the cost of travel and accommodation.

Re: Madeira Tasting in San Francisco - Tentative for May 2013

I am planning to attend. Should be able to get a reasonable flight from Calgary.
Just returned from a week on Madeira (first visit). What a wonderful place.
Brought back some good bottles so will have something to bring to the tasting.
Will there be a theme?

Health Hazard? Lead in Wooded Port & Madeira

On this topic, the Ontario Canada liquor board LCBO rejected some Sherry a few years ago for what they diagnosed as high levels of ethyl carbamate (urethane) which is apparently a carcinogen. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)then set limits for this compound. (it is a bi-product of fermenta...

Re: When do you drink Madeira?

If I had more in my cellar I would drink it far more frequently (I am working to remedy this oversight). From my (sadly) limited experience I think there is a suitable variety of Madeira for almost any occasion or time of year. I am particularly fond of Sercial almost any time but enjoy sweeter wine...
