Re: Presidential 2011 LBV

So C. da Silva is now marketing themselves as Dalva. And I think Presidential is a brand name they use in the United States. I'm not aware of a any specific quintas associated with any of these names. As for your LBV, that sounds like a reasonable price and something worth trying. Whether to let it...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Fonseca bin 27, which I brought to a party where it surprised me by being a great hit! No one there was a regular Port drinker or very knowledgeable, but apparently some have a few VPs at home, so I'm surprised they didn't know bin 27 or Reserve Rubies at all. Might be they only know about/ look at ...

Presidential 2011 LBV

I'm in Bethesda, MD for the week and found the Presidential 2011 LBV for $20. There are no notes on it, but I figured I can't go wrong with a 2011. Do I want to open this now or is it probably in a down swing and not worth opening for a few years? Do I want to get a second one? Also, is all Presiden...

2011 Fonseca VP source?

A friend is looking for 2011 Fonseca. Does anyone have suggestions I can direct her to online or shops to call? We're in Pittsburgh, PA if that makes a difference.

That's interesting! I guess it makes sense given that Quevedo also makes a kosher standard Ruby. Where did you find the connection?

I've only had one Burmester, the Ten Year. A friend brought it from out of state. I generally don't like Tens and I really liked it. I'd love to try other things by them.

Thanks so much for this! I've wanted to learn about Marsala and haven't known how to look. I hope to get to try decent ones eventually. This is excellent.

Re: Porto Cordovero - Not one note...

A friend of mine just got a bottle of this, labeled Quinta da Trovisca, which I've never heard of but has a website. It seems Porto Cordovero is owned by TFP. http://www.trovisca.com/ The listing I found on kosherwine.com listed it at $22, on sale from $26, which I believe is around the price she pa...

Re: Which grapes are used for which port variety?

From my reading of the regulation, for a Colheita, it all needs to come from the same year. http://www.ivdp.pt/pt/docs/legislacao/213.pdf, 1 — «Vinho do Porto com data de colheita» — vinho do Porto, tinto ou branco, com características organolépticas de elevada qua-lidade e proveniente de uma só vin...

Eventually I want to get a photo of Port casks framed with the words "Pipe dreams".

I also want to get a print of the "This is not a pipe" painting with the pipe replaced by a bottle of Port.

Re: Fonseca 2017 VP [stream of consciousness?]

We poured a taste this morning. It's mellowed significantly and is much better balanced and integrated. Still very fruity but my first comment was jammy, which I don't think had applied before. The body hadn't gotten heavier, but it felt stickier, maybe that's tannin? I assume had we decanted Friday...

Re: Fonseca 2017 VP [stream of consciousness?]

We're in a hotel room and I wasn't told beforehand to know to bring a decanter and cheese cloth. I'll do that at home. We left a glass out overnight and I put the cork back in the bottle just to keep things out of it. Twelve hours later, we tried the glass that we'd poured last night and a glass pou...

Fonseca 2017 VP [stream of consciousness?]

I was just given a 750 of Fonseca 2017! [My birthday was last week.] I want to open it on Saturday! How long should I decant it?? It's room temperature right now, should I refrigerate it overnight? I've only had a few VPs and it's been a couple years, now. Nice gift. I would open it, pour into a dec...

Thanks! I wasn't sure what the "aged in oak for two years" on the label meant. I didn't know First Estate is aged that long in wood. I haven't been able to find it yet to try.
