Re: What have you opened this week?

Sipping on a Warre's Otima 10YO Tawny while contemplating what I will surprise my neighbour with for his 40th birthday next weekend. I don't have any port from 1982 so the options are between these 2. 1980 Smith Woodhouse VP 1983 Ramos Pinto VP Leaning towards the RP as it is more mature than the SW...

Re: What Are Your Favorite White Ports With an Indication of Age

If we just stick with 10YO whites my personal rankings looks something like this. 1. Quinta das Lamelas. Superb quality for the money 2. Dona Otilla 3. Sao Leonardo 4. Blackett 5. Bulas At around the same price point I would also look at white colheitas from Dalva, Kopke and Maynard's. The 2003, 200...

Re: What have you opened this week?

10 year old White from Quinta das Lamelas. Quite possibly the best 10YO white on the market. Hot dang it is good. [kez_11.gif] That is currently my favourite 10yo white! I drink a couple of cases a year - with quite a lot of help from the wife. Bought 2 bottles. The first was gone in a whiff and I ...

Re: Order of tasting.

I agree with Eric VP: Oldest to youngest. Else the young ones would overpower your palate to enjoy the intricate nuances in the older VPs. Only relevant if you have VPs older than 30-40 years in the lineup. Colheita: Young to older typically. The really old ones are so rich and voluptuous that it wo...

Where to buy port in Portland?

I need an assist for a friend that lives in Portland, US. It is Fathers day on Sunday and she wants to get him a nice port for the occasion. (I got him into the stuff). She has only been able to find a Barros 20YO but he is more into ruby style. So a good LBV would be preferable. Could any of you po...

Re: What have you opened this week?

My mission to port-convert my neighbour has completed. Yesterday without my doing he brought over a 30 Anos White from Quinta da Devesa to share and I returned the favour by opening a 1991 Andresen colheita. End of session we are both just smiling. [friends.gif] Both wines very on point and shows wh...

Re: What have you opened this week?

We had a 1997 Horizontal tasting in the UK this week. My contributions were bottled of Martínez 1997 and Quinta de Val da Figueira 1997. Your takeaways as in which are performing well at the minute and which are going to stand the test of time? It is a vintage I personally adore. Have a soft spot f...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Wasn't my bottle, but a 1997 Smith Woodhouse VP; and I can report that it is still very primary and powerful. Typical from SWC. Thanks for the update. I will lay off the 3 bottles I own for a considerable number of years, I have been quaffing on a few 2015 Quinta do Crasto LBV's currently. Packs qu...

Classic haul. Really nice ports. Had them all multiple times over the last 5 years. The Niepoort should be drunk the fastest. The G83 really nice at the moment too.

Agreed. The 2011 Crasto was best in class for me.

I just picked up a few bottles of the 2015 Crasto LBV. Dang tasty.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Finally got my hands on the 2011 Alves de Sousa VP. Been looking for this for a while.A good deal at $50 per bottle.

Not much focus on the 2011 vintage in the market currently, might be time to add some more from this stellar vintage to my cellar. [cheers.gif]

Re: please educate: San Leonardo vs. Mourao

That would be Blackett in retail. They have a 10, 20, 30 and 40YO Tawny as well as a 10YO White. What you can try if in Douro at the Quinta is a different story. Yep, what Thomas said. When we're talking about various Quinta de Brunheda Ports, we're talking about cask samples that were acquired at ...
