Re: NV S. Leonardo Porto Old Tawny Port "60"

I think it all comes down to the fact that I have been spoiled... er... privileged to taste some very profound Madeiras with even greater depth, length and acidic punch (the 1880 Barbeito Malvasia comes to mind). Having said that, this S. Leonardo 60 year old is memorable and I can't wait to try the...

Welcome to the FTLOP board. This topic has been brought up before. For starters, I would check out this thread. Enjoy!

NV S. Leonardo "60" Very Old Tawny Port

NV S. Leonardo Porto Old Tawny Port "60" - Portugal, Douro, Porto (4/5/2017) Perhaps the best tawny port I've ever had. Expensive, but there is no doubting the quality here. There is a cornucopia of dried fruits here, with raisins, figs, apricots, prunes, etc. Complicating notes of almond...

Re: 1994 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

Unfortunately I haven't had many vintages (the 2005 and maybe one other)... but the 1994 is my favorite.

I'll have to try a 2011 and report back...

1994 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

1994 Quinta do Vesuvio Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (3/14/2017) Not the monstrous brute that I remember from my last sample about 9 years ago. This is starting to show development in the tannin department, but still quite youthful. Deep, dark, plummy fruit with notes of tar, spice and lic...

Re: Madeira food airings

Sercial and consommé works well. But perhaps something more substantial, like French onion soup.

Glenn,

Thanks for the note. Like Eric, I'm a huge fan of good cask aged whites... can't wait to try it. Really love the packaging!

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

1880 Blandy's Verdelho Solera. After the stupendous Ports of the past week, I was craving a Madeira. Decanted last night, still with a bit of bottle stink today. Will give it a few more days in the decanter. Did this have a "t-top" cork? If so, I think I had it twice, and both bottles wer...

So it was... I looked at my notes and I saw that it was atypically dry for a Malvasia, though I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

Re: Exciting news from d'Oliveiras!

Since the wines of the Olím brothers were so different in character from d'Oliveiras - which wasn't the case when d'Oliveiras bought Adega de Torreão - Luís told me they have decided to bottle the wines in a different way. I don't recall ever having an ABSL wine. How does it differ? Less concentrat...

2011 Dow Vintage Port

2011 Dow Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (9/2/2016) This is a monster that demands cellaring, but is by no means undrinkable if you wish to enjoy the primary blast of fruit and cocoa notes. A bit of alcohol was noticeable when first opened, but is was a crystal-clean, pure and smooth spirit....

Re: What is the highest rated LBV you've had?

I have fond memories of the 2003 Niepoort LBV. Actually I remember a bunch of nice LBV from that vintage, but I think the Niepoort was my favorite.
