Re: What Portuguese wine have you purchased this week...

At the Blandy's Lodge. All of those were purchased in the Blandy's shop that's on the street. I didn't buy any wines at the airport... but I did look ;-)

Randy - Thanks for opening up that 2005 Niepoort Redoma. I have a couple in my cellar and I hope that mine show yours did.

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?

Nice haul Mike! I was on the Port Harvest Tour before the Madeirathon tour and so I didn't have much room for Madeira's. :( This is what I brought home: Blandy's 30 year old Bual 1968 D'Oliveira Boal. The funny thing is that when I was storing the Madeiras I found I owned those Madeiras already! The...

TN: 2016 Kopke Douro Vinhas Velhas

2016 Kopke Douro Vinhas Velhas - Portugal, Douro (10/3/2021) Tasted at the Kopke tasting room in Vila Nova da Gaia. From an open bottle that had one glass taken out. Dark ruby color. Looks quite young. Nice nose off black cherry and chocolate. There is some wood showing, but it’s well integrated. B...

1965 shows well on opening (with some air), the 1969 is stupendous... but needs a LOT of decant time.

TN: 2016 Casa Ferreirinha Douro Quinta da Leda

2016 Casa Ferreirinha Douro Quinta da Leda - Portugal, Douro (9/19/2021) Very dark core, glowing magenta rim. Looks young - and it is!. Nose was a little closed on day one, but has opened up on day two. Pear, blackberry, mushroom, and forest floor nose. This was pretty heavy on day one, but much mo...

2003 Niepoort LBV

Wow! This is fantastic for an LBV. Very dark color. Lifted dark roasted coffee nose, orange peel, and a touch of earth. The initial palate is HUGE. Really big. A touch of heat. Maybe missing a bit of complexity. But wow, is it expressive! Long, long, long (did I say long) finish. My previous bottle ...

2011 Niepoort Redoma Reserva Douro White

10 years old. I never liked this version. The 2010 was tremendous, but the 2011 never failed to disappoint. After ignoring the bottles that I had for long enough, it's time to just drink them up and make space in the cellar. Medium straw color. No browning at all. Looks very good for a 10 year old W...

TN: 2016 Chryseia Douro Red

Very dark color. Ruby red rim. Slightly smoky cranberry/ pomegranate nose. Still seems very primary. Medium-full body. Not as big as I expected. Very drinkable now with the right food (grilled steak!). This is still an infant, but you can drink it today. Very delicious. Deep fruit flavors. Long fini...

Good to know. Thanks!!

Re: What Portuguese wine have you purchased this week...

I think that they are really dialing in the style and not making it so "in your face". Starting with the 2014 I could really see a change. Not a huge change, but more balanced and not as HUGELY oaky. I'm only buying a six each year.
