Re: Breaking news: Graham's acquires property next to Quinta dos Malvedos

In a similar vein, does Portugal have a national mapping service, similar to the British Ordnance Survey? I'd quite like to get definitive maps of the Douro at around 1:25,000 or 1:50,000 - the road maps at 1:250,000 are woefully short of detail.. Yes, Instituto Geográfico Português. Website http:/...

Re: New Segment for the Newsletter

"Port History" There is so much history to be told: persons that changed the trade; trivia; technical stuff; important dates. There is so much information that it would be interesting to create a section dedicated to history, which could even be "outsourced" on occasion to expert...

Re: Is a colheita from a declared vintage year better than a non declared year?

I don't have as much experience of Colheitas as others here, but one observation I would make is that specialist Colheita makers have historically not been big in the Vintage Port market. Producers such as Burmester, Krohn, Feist and even Neipoort have been very focused on making excellent Colheita...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

The best selection will be found in Garrafeira Nacional https://www.garrafeiranacional.com/ and Garrafeira de Campo de Ourique http://garrafeiracampodeourique.blogspot.com/ . Unless a specific promotion is happening at the time, you will not be able to taste though. To taste, the best place in Lisbo...

Re: Does port and chocolate really make a good pairing?

walked past Arcádia yesterday (traditional chocolate shop from Porto - http://www.arcadia.pt) and noticed they are selling boxes with chocolates and a 375 bottle of Port (Cálem). They also sell chocolate that has Port inside.

Re: Mystery wine - is this a port or something else?

"licoroso" is a generic name for a fortified wine. This is a fortified red wine; it is not Port and it is not from the Douro. Estremadura is the old name for the "Lisboa" region.

Re: Vintage Port Soil Aging Question

The question I've yet to get an answer about is why did Sousoa, that from many accounts was so prominent before Phyloxera, fall so far out of favor after Phyloxera and is now rarely mentioned. If anyone knows or has any theories on why I'd love to hear them. Accurate accounts of the first half of t...

Re: Port drinking windows

I presume you are talking mostly about VP. I do not pay any attention to drinking windows because: 1 - As to the start of the window I am very conservative and use the following "rules": 21 years for VP and 15 years for SQVP (maybe when I can afford to buy in larger quantities I will start...
