TN: 2009 Chave Hermitage Farconnet
Tasted January 1/16. After the Burgundy Christmas debacle, it was hoped the New Year would bring a change for the better. Suffice to say, any wine associated with Jean-Louis Chave is worth trying out. This is sold under its merchant/negociant label, although it is partially sourced from the estate's...

TN: 1996 Grand Cru La Grande Rue (Vosne Romanee)
Tasted on December 25/15, and again for 2 following days. Sorry to say, should have been tasted at least 5 or more years ago, and unfortunately I still have another bottle. The bouquet and color of the wine is good, but in the mouth, sorry to say the fruit is drying out. After 36 hours the wine was ...

TN: Broadbent 1996 Sweet
Tasted on my birthday after a day trip, purchased from Fred Meyer in Bellingham for about $50. Made from Tinto Negra, first madeira consumed in quite a long time. While it is not in the class as a Colheita from one of the noble(r) varietals, it was a large step up from a basic Tinto Negra. Nice brow...

Re: SOCHI OLYMPICS: What are you favorite events so far?
Justin Bieber was found in Miami to have consumed alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs - or in the words of Rob Ford, a snack. The USA-Canada mens' hockey game was in my view not as close as the final score might suggest. Had it not been for the magnificent performance of netminder Jonathan Qu...

Re: SOCHI OLYMPICS: What are you favorite events so far?
I'm not an expert at officiating by any means, but it looked like to me, on the penalty in OT which led to the goal, that the Canadian forward Wickenhayser's skates got tangled up with the US player who was pursuing her on the breakaway attempt. There was no use of a stick cause tripping or any push...

I agree with the Family Guy idea of placing a sign for US visitors entering Canada to pass quietly, to avoid interruption of curling in progress.

Re: Valentine's Day wines
If iirc stands for if I recall correctly, that is one of the coolest acronyms I have seen in a long time. :-) Love to hear there are some Loire fans here! By the way, the Quarts de Chaume was re-tasted today. The bouquet had faded a bit, but the wine's flavor was holding up well. I neglected to ment...

Re: Valentine's Day wines
Thanks Moses, that sounds like quite a special wine, in spite of the rotten luck with the cork. Since we are both fans of Huet, I'm sitting on one full bottle of the 1995 Cuvee Constance, which the wine maker claims has the potential to last a century. I hope my grandchild(ren) get to prove that. Ray

Re: Valentine's Day wines
It sounds like Andy had some brilliant wine yesterday. :-) I also thank him and/or anyone else who fixed the link issue so that I could read his reply. To Moses, I would very interested to hear more about your great 1976. I found the Quarts de Chaume had a very positive flintiness to complement the ...

Valentine's Day wines
Hello everyone, just curious what the members are planning to uncork for this special occasion. My wife and I got the vinous roll going a day early, to try out the Domaine des Baumard 1998 Quarts de Chaume. Wonderful stuff, at 15 years being very fresh with perhaps another 10 or 15 years of good dri...

I'm a closet fan of biathlon. How those nordic skiers can go like mad, then get their heart rate down fast and low enough to hold a rifle still, is almost beyond belief.

Re: 2014 SUPER BOWL THREAD and Poll
An article posted today on nfl.com, as I understand it, concludes that the Hawks' safety was due to the Broncos' center not hearing the snap count change due to crowd noise, so the 12th Man gets an assist on that play. The Broncos were not expecting that at all. There's been comparisons of late betw...

Re: The dullest tool in the shed
My initial reaction was to disagree with this assertion, out of respect for tools and sheds. After further consideration, I now do agree. Hopefully pro baseball can move on from this.

Re: 2014 SUPER BOWL THREAD and Poll
Sorry Roy...I thought CLF was full and Safeco's lower level was full, with the upper level not being opened due to lack of running water. Not surprised the traffic was a mess.

Re: 2014 SUPER BOWL THREAD and Poll
I gotta say, on my second glass of 1998 Tardieu-Laurent St. Joseph Vielles Vignes Les Roches, that the 12th fan turnout out for the parade today is fantastic. When you fill CenturyLink and Safeco Fields at the same time, that is really saying something!

Re: 2014 SUPER BOWL THREAD and Poll
Hello Glenn, while the accompanying video appears to profile the heroic efforts of Demaryius Thomas playing with a separated shoulder, I can't help but think the player's injury was caused at least partially by Kam Chancellor, as shown early. Once things settle down, I might try to find a #31 jersey...

Re: 2014 SUPER BOWL THREAD and Poll
Somebody on eBay had the audacity to put a Malcolm Smith jersey on sale with a Buy it Now price of $1,500. Talk about petty opportunism!

Re: 2014 SUPER BOWL THREAD and Poll
I have to give credit to Glenn's observation from earlier; the more highlights I have seen of the game, the more Kam Chancellor stands out, especially in his aggressive tackling and hitting, while not taking one penalty. With all due respect to Lynch, Chancellor was a beast. Sherman said during a ra...

Re: 2014 SUPER BOWL THREAD and Poll
Malcolm Smith had one great play in each of the last two games, but I would have voted for Chancellor also - and I think Harvin's long runs and explosive speed gave the rest of the Hawks' offense more room to move. Maybe I am being harsh, but Denver's lack of scoring today, after a historically prol...
