Re: Round Trip Flights From The East Coast To Porto Or Lisbon From $399

I booked last week my September flight from Miami to Porto on Expedia... USD 422. Was so happy about this great price... until I just saw that now it's USD 412.00... lol... Crazy prices.

Re: Fonseca Lodge

Thanks for sharing this, Roy. I feel suddenly like a total outsider - but I didn't even know that there was a Fonseca Lodge at some point of time in the last years in Gaia... I only know the Quinta do Panascal... Now I feel sad that I will never see it as it obviously doesn't exist anymore... :(

Re: For FTLOP'ers throughout EUROPE

Hello Roy: Can you please send this email to me, too... I'm frequently in Europe and can pick up bottles there... Or are you working on a buying-opportunity for the Cayman Islands, too? Then I would wait of course... Hahahaha... [cheers.gif] [cheers.gif] [cheers.gif]

Re: My Barrel Port has turned to syrup.....

Hi Cam, I spent the last weeks thinking and thinking and thinking about what happened to your barrel.
I think I found the answer. You didn't use Port Wine from the demarcated region in Portugal, did you? That's why.

Re: LBV questions (Dow's 2011 LBV in particular)

In September 2015 I had the pleasure to take part in a tasting at the winery of Oscar and Claudia Quevedo. The topic of the night was "Vintage vs. LBV; same year; same producer". We tasted blind LBV versus Vintage. These were some of the wines we had (we had a total of 18 wines): Ramos Pin...

ESSENCIA DO VINHO, anyone?

Hi, the yearly wine fair "Essencia do Vinho" will be this year in Porto from Feb 23rd - 26th. The program isn't published yet, but I'm sure there will be a few very interesting tastings lined up. I have never been to the Essencia and many people have warned me that it is totally overcrowde...

Re: Your BEST Port tasted in 2016?

Having had my 50th birthday this year and spending 10 days in Porto and the Douro Valley to celebrate makes it very difficult to pick one great wine... S.Leonardo's 100 Year old Wine stands out, the 5G from Wine&Soul also... plus so many other great wines. But for me it's very important which we...

Re: Election night ... what Port will YOU be drinking?

Well, I hadn't expected the election-night to be so long... I had planned to use it to finish a few half-full bottles that I had still standing around. Started with a 10 year old Tawny from Smith Woodhouse... then worked my way through the 10 year old Malmsley from Blandy's... and because I still wa...

Re: Fladgate to build 100M Euro tourist attraction in Porto

Well... I am a very conservative guy... All the changes in the Port Wine industry since 1880 have been very much suspect to me and I would prefer that Dona Antonia would still be reigning. So whenever somebody says that he or she will remodel an old building, my heart immediately shouts "NOOOO!...

Re: NV Real Companhia Velha Porto Quinado Port -- Mais 60 Anos

Hi Andy... While I would have loved to taste this wine, I must confess that I am not convinced that this is a IVDP category of Port.... Your bottle was a cask sample and therefore not meant to be commercially sold... so they can print on the label what they want and they decided to call it "Por...

Re: What is the BEST Port you've had so far in 2016?

In many years it's difficult for me to decide which Port was the best - in this year it's pretty easy: 100 year old Quinta do Mourao. In September I will be back in Portugal - but I have the feeling that it will be very difficult to top this wine...

Re: What is the highest rated LBV you've had?

Last year I had the good luck to attend an amazing tasting at Oscar and Claudia Quevedo. We did a blind tasting of 23 Port Wines - half of it were Vintage Ports, the other half LBVs (12:11) It was just amazing to see for example the Ramos Pinto Vintage 82 against the Ramos Pinto LBV 82. Or the Niepo...

Re: 1700 Fake Bottles of Pêra Manca Colheita 2010 confiscated

No idea, Eric. But I think the label must be pretty well done - obviously it's quite difficult to spot the fake bottles. At least the producer is very open about this case and wrote a long article about how they will avoid any more false bottles in the future... interesting read. However, currently ...

1700 Fake Bottles of Pêra Manca Colheita 2010 confiscated

Anybody who has bought a bottle of the Colheita 2010 of Pêra Manca should check the alcohol volume number on the label. If it is 14%, then you might have a fake bottle. In Portugal 1700 bottles were confiscated from this fantastic wine...this wine reaches prices of up to EUR 350 per bottle, so quite...

Beneficio for 2016: 114,900 pipas

Hi, The Port Wine Institute has issued the beneficio for the 2016 harvest: 114,900 pipas. I put a little graph together that shows the beneficio numbers of the last years. I'm still upset about the low figure for the 2011 harvest - the best year ever, and the lowest production. http://i0.wp.com/port...

Re: Portugal triumphs at Euro 2016

If you don't know Portugal, it's difficult to understand what this victory means to Portugal. The passion for football is so deeply rooted into the people... I can not think of any sport in the USA that would be able to achieve the same emotional turmoil for the American nation as football does for ...

Re: What about Graham-VP

Glenn, I couldn't agree more with you. Graham's is really a guarantee for a very nice Port. If I could only have VPs of one company for the rest of my life - I think I would chose Graham's. As you say, sometimes Taylor's gets it absolutely right - but not always. My problem is that many VPs from Tay...
