Re: Remembering 2011 VPs and scarcity.

I agree it would be nice, but generally not practical in most of the world. The US isn't "most of the world" Andy... But in all seriousness, it may well be possible for shippers to sell directly to customers, but I can fully understand why they don't. VP may build reputation, it do...

Re: Remembering 2011 VPs and scarcity.

Although prices for 2011 have gone up and a number of shippers have sold out (or claim to have done), it remains to be seen what the value of these ports will be in a number of years on the secondary market. My guess is that a good number of buyers that went in for the investment will be sorely disa...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Gran Cruz purchases Quinta de Ventozelo

I always thought Real Companhia Velha bought the quinta from the Spanish firm PROINSA back in 2008 (see here), but apparently it was some sort of agreement where the Spanish retained ownership? Anyway, Cruz is clearly aiming at premiumisation with this acquisition.

Re: Richard Mayson's Top 20 Ports of 2014 listing

The article in the magazine doesn't present this list as a top 20 per se, but gives an overview of different styles with a number of recommendations per style. To present this as a single top20 seems rather out of context. I thought the article was fine and the recommendations solid for anyone looki...

TN: Po de Poeira Douro 2006

Very acidic, with pronounced balsamic notes, leather and dried out fruit. This has sadly died (and not gone to heaven)... I knew it was a long shot when I bought this (second wine, made for the first time and from a mediocre vintage), but needless to say I had hoped for something a little bit better...

Re: 2014: The BEST Portuguese table wine(s) you have consumed this year?

Didn't get to drink too many Portuguese wines this year, but I immensely enjoyed the following:

- Luis Pato VR Beiras Vinha Barrosa 2005
- Quinta de la Rosa Douro Reserva 2007
- Niepoort Douro Tiara 2010

Re: Decanting a 1963 Fonseca

I have to help taste a bottle of 1963 Fonseca in the near future. What a horrible task to have.... I would say it depends on the number of people you're drinking this with. If you are with a small part I would open, decant and follow it over a couple of hours to see the development. If you a...

Spraying against fungal disease is usually done with Bordeaux mixture which is allowed under rules for organic viticulture, so that doesn't have anything to do with it.

Re: What Portuguese wines have you opened this week

Luis Pato Vinha Barossa Vinhas Velhas 2005 How was it? A beauty. This wine made me realise again what a great great Baga is, and just how good Pato is at getting the best out of the grape. Beautiful ripe tannins, that were nicely integrated. Spicy, dark fruit (blackberries) and refreshing acidity l...

Re: AQUAPURA

Six Senses is not especially known for their cheap hotels, so how sure is it that rates will come down? It seems to me a logical step to team up with a chain with a large customer base in the luxury segment. I hope it will work well for them.

Re: English Pubs

I absolutely loved the pubs in Scotland, many with great atmosphere and every single one of them seemed to have at least one or two local cask ales available. These were two of my favourites: The Drovers Inn and Stein Inn . The pubs in Ireland on the other hand... nothing but Heineken and Smithwicks.

But seriously, I would love to taste this wine, it sounds like a very interesting project. If I'm correct, this is more or less from the same area where Infantado is situated?
