Re: Post-war plantings/bottlings of Terrantez

As for post-war I'm not sure which war you're referring to. Either WWii or the peaceful "war"...the '74 revolution...but I guess what is meant is post '45: H&H T '54 was on the sweeter side for T when we tasted it 4 years ago. Very good ++ (and I try to be objective not be inflationary...

Re: 'Delicate old Madeira' - Date of its bottling?

The reference to 'delicate old...' would most likely refer to either Sercial or Verdelho would I be right in thinking? I wouldn't bet a dime on S or V...my thinking would be a blend...but no guesses or guarantees on the composition are possible (ok, guesses are possible, but unfortunately senseless)

Re: 'Delicate old Madeira' - Date of its bottling?

Your pictures make me even more confident...50ies.

Regarding quality: My guess is a reserve, like 15 YO or the like.

Don't expect great stuff, but it could be decent.

Lately I opened this Harvey's Reserve, and it was GREAT and SINGING...

Re: 'Delicate old Madeira' - Date of its bottling?

Pictures of capsule as well as from the bottom of the bottle (punt) would help.

I would guess the bottle (filling) originates from the 40ies or 50ies, see also here:

Re: 1937 port. (only 1 photo) should i buy it?

Those stencils legible read "nandez", so I guess the name of the Port was Fernandez or Hernandez. I agree, probably a Colheita from a local/small produceror even a private family stock. The latter is often a good thing since individuals often did private fillings for special occasions (wed...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

Regarding 1920 M C&G I think one reason why this is increasing in price is the fact it is said to be the last ancient M from Faja (dos Padres, of course). "Made from the last Malvasia Candida vines from" the Faja dos Padres vineyard. Tasted on eight occasions and it is always sheer per...

Re: Have You Ever Encountered a Fake Madeira?

Hi Eric!

So in case this was a 5 YO and if bottled in lets say 1930 then it would have been a 1925!!! Not bad.

Just joking.

Noval VP 2016 vs. 2017

Just purchased a case of '17@55EUR with option on going deeper or adding '16 at same price tag.

Any comparison on those back-to-back years? TNs?

Thanks

Re: Event: MARSALA MASTER AND SICILIAN ICON MARCO DE BARTOLI

Dear Moses!

Many thanks!!!

I do indeed like the Bartoli sytle quite a bit...also their Pantellaria Bukkarams are great.

I will try to resist for a few days and monitor them evolving over a few days.

Purchased one 1860 and a Vergine 1988, will check this out later this year.

Cheers

Re: Event: MARSALA MASTER AND SICILIAN ICON MARCO DE BARTOLI

Last week I was fortunate enough to visit Marsala and especially the de Bartoli estate in Marsala, but not their Pantellaria property. Quite impressive stuff, especially the 1987 Superiore Riserva reminded me on the best recently produced Madeiras. De Bartoli's high quality Marsalas are under the ra...
