Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
It was about 15 years too early for the Grange anyway. Your limited experience with the Para certainly outshines mine! It's Australia's version of a Colhieta I guess. I haven't had it for a while, and I haven't had anything that old, so you've inspired me to go find some now! It won't be the 1899 th...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
Thanks for the welcome Roy, Andy and Eric, I've learn't a lot so far just reading through the forums so far but it does sound like it's an expensive hobby for us Australians. I guess I'll get used to that. The auctions have been good so far - last round of bidding netted me some vargellas 05, a tayl...

Re: Do you have a favorite non-Portuguese port-style that you love?
They make a bit of everything in Rutherglen, but their point of difference is the muscat and tokay/topaque so there is an export market for that I doubt a lot of anything else makes it outside of Australia these days but several of the rutherglen wineries go back to the mid to late 1800s so they wer...

Re: Are you willing to pay ...
Thanks for your sympathy Eric. I'm not sure how viable or possible direct shipping is. I'm hoping there will be a few Australians on the forum that have more experience in the aquisition of port than I do and will let me in on a few of their secrets! I guess the problem for Australia and the US is t...

Re: Do you have a favorite non-Portuguese port-style that you love?
I cut my teeth on Australian fortifieds before graduating to the Portugese port. There are plenty of Tawny styles available in the Australian market but on the whole I'm not a huge fan of most. The wine that originally got me interested in fortifieds is a vintage port style from a winery called Stan...

Re: Poll: 375 ml bottle of Vintage Port vs. 500 ml bottle of VP
I've noticed here in Australia that there has been a trend in the last 10 years or so to put most of the different non vintage fortified styles into 500ml bottles, but the vintage styles haven't really followed that trend. I like the 375ml bottles so I wouldn't want to see them disappear in favour o...

Re: Are you willing to pay ...
I'm coming in late here but I thought I'd chime in on this one. To get a good bottle of Vintage Port in Australia we would be certain to pay over AU $100 for current vintage at retailers. I was in one of our larger retailers today where the 07 Croft and Fonseca VPs were around the Au $110 mark (that...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
Hi All, I'm Paul and I live in Melbourne Australia. I'm partial to wine in general, but have long enjoyed fortified wines but I've probably spent a few years distracted by muscat and tokay/topaque (as they now call it). I can condense my my interest in Port to 3 specific events. The first was a 20 y...
