Re: Bottles from the Kassab Collection > TNs?

I suppose another tiny factor, given these days a slight penchant for swindlers to make/sell fake wines, is that the BAK seal itself is rather hard to take off, then replace convincingly...? In which case, one could argue that the contents of a BAK sealed bottle are more likely to be authentic than ...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

How was that bottle, Justin? Curious to hear thoughts. I've heard generally positive reactions, but thought I'd ask you! I haven't had one myself, but I've got a couple as yet unopened.... I'm wondering what I'm waiting for! (maybe for some visitors!)

Re: Recorked by OP Brothers?

Thanks everyone. And yes, Alan, I totally agree that I was hesitant to post here because I didn't want to be 'that guy' who automatically assumes the worst and points fingers. I certainly did not want to post "hey, look at these fakes" because honestly, I just don't have enough knowledge a...

Recorked by OP Brothers?

Hello dear fellow madeira enthusiasts!!! So I was perusing the Christie's e-catalogue of their London auction (that happened earlier today, although curiously I only got the email just 30 minutes ago) and saw a few ancient madeira for auction. A 1715 was up for auction, but it looked like it had bra...

TripAdvisor

(Not sure how much value you put into these things, but...)

TripAdvisor just named Porto as the #3 "Destination on the Rise" in the World. (Behind Tulum, Mexico and Cartagena, Columbia)

Cheers!

Re: 2016 FTLOP Madeira get together

I'm also a fan of -Two day event, separated by tiers. -Daytime tasting, evening meals. (perhaps not too early of a start on Saturday, to allow some folks to arrive in the morning in case they can't travel Friday night?) -We could concentrate on producer or grape varietal. -Or, for the first tasting,...

What is Madeira jelly?
(listed in Dessert section)

A quick search mentions madeira jelly as accompaniment with foie gras, but less so about its being a dessert all unto itself!

Re: March Madness: The next Port Buying Op - details.

I was thiiiiiis close to picking up my order in Santa Monica today, when I realized I was sporting a 103 fever and I could hardly stand up, let alone drive down the 405 on a Friday afternoon. Had to call and postpone my pick up which they were very very very accommodating to do. Ah well, I guess I w...

If you don't have a corkscrew...

I was tempted to post this under our recent 'corkscrew' discussion, but really it is about if you DON'T have a corkscrew... ... have any of you guys seen this before? or even tried it? https://video-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hvideo-xfp1/v/t42.1790-2/1181355_10151539809772761_55532_n.mp4?efg=eyJybHIiOjUyOS...

Really interesting and fascinating. I started googling what I could about this and found this Associated Press article from LA Times 2008. I wonder how the people mentioned and involved with each article are connected. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://articles....

Looks like it capped out at 4900 EUR, which was below the reserve. (I wonder how much that is in drachma....) Looks like a good bottle, though. Thanks for sharing the listing link!!!

Re: 1715 Terrantez Madeira

I am tempted to bid on this, though the fact that the bid is already as high as it is and it has still not yet reached its reserve is a big turn off. Also, seller has a mixed bag of feedback and I'm not too familiar with the auctioneer (though this bottle at a big name auction house will likely hamm...

Hey John,

A couple folks had some thoughts about some of the lots in the auction in the forum post titled "Acker May Auction" a bit further down in the Madeira forums.

Not sure if it answers any of your questions, but there is/was a brief dialogue...

Cheers!
