Re: 2016 FTLOP Madeira get together - UPDATED 1/20/15

Glad I popped into the Madeira forum! I will ask Vic if he is in for one or both days. I figure that we needed to find out if we like Madeira enough to go to Madeira, so this might be a great opportunity to really find out. Let me talk to Vic when he wakes up later today and I will get back to this ...

Re: Premier Cru warning

I am supposed to get mine next Thursday. Hopefully they come through! Three cases is quite a lot! -Lisa They shipped when Premier Cru said they would and arrived today! Not sure if it was because I called them directly on the phone as Roy suggested or not, but that sure got action! Thanks for all t...

Re: The beauty of White Ports with indication of age

I bought one of the 40 year old Kopke White Tawnys when I was at their tasting room in Gaia. It was fabulous and worth the effort of lugging home.

Re: Breaking news: Taylor's buys VINTAGE HOUSE Hotel

The funny thing is that Gillian mentioned the purchase to us when we were at the Croft facility there with Port Harvest Tour 2. I think they had actually completed the sale that day. We of course told her we would stay mum until they sent the news out. Pretty exciting that they will get involved wit...

Re: Wine Travel Trips

I also highly recommend the Vinguard Valise. It was awesome and really protected my wine. On going through customs, Vic and I had 26 bottles between the two of us. Total $ value was $1,317. The customs guys just asked us if we were brining in bought stuff that was valued at more than $1,600. I said ...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Another gift to add to the collection! My friends the Helkers know that I liked port, so they found one in their cellar to give to me for my birthday. 1997 Martinez Porto Vintage Quinta da Eira Velha. Roy gave it 92 points, so I am hoping it shows up that nicely when I open it. It is a good thing to...

Re: So AFTER the 1985 tasting ... what should we do next?

Jeez, talk about putting the cart before the horse ... there are SO MANY other details to firm up before worrying about who has which 40 year old bottle. [foilhat.gif] At least we are eager to get together again! I love the 40 yro idea and also old colheitas. Just hope I can make it whenever we set...

Re: 1985 horizontal, Seattle, Jan 24-25 2015

An amazing two days! Thanks Glenn for doing all the legwork to make this happen. And than you to every one who donated bottles! It was a great overview of the vintage. My take away is that you should drink up your non-top tier producers—they are drinking fine now but won't be for much longer. If you...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

I didn't exactly purchase this port, but I acquired a Barao de Vilar 1974 Colheita bottled in 2014. It was a gift from the French translators for my Pathfinder game. They are always finding me interesting and unique ports. This seems to be a very small producer and I can't find a single bottle note ...

1980 Tuke Holdsworth Vintage Port"

I found a bottle of Tuke Holdsworth 1980 Vintage Port in my local Grocery Outlet for the crazy low price of $24.99, so I bought one to see if it is worth buying more. Vic and I opened it on Christmas Day to sip while we watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Upon opening, a gorgeous aroma of stra...

Re: 1980 Tuke Holdsworth VP at Grocery Outlet

Just decanted this and the color is great. The nose is quite good and enticing. Used the Hersch Method to open. Will decant for 4 to 5 hours and drink with Dr. Who tonight. The cork says Robertson on it and seems newer than I would have expected from a 1980. Full notes once it decants.

1980 Tuke Holdsworth VP at Grocery Outlet

Hey y'all: I was shopping at Grocery Outlet, a chain of discount grocery stores up here in Seattle, and saw that they had a bunch of 1980 Tuke Holdsworth VP for $24.99 per bottle. Checking out the internet (including the Tasting Notes database here) revealed not a single note or review of this wine....

The only 1985 I have is the Smith Woodhouse, but you already know that Glenn. I missed out on the 1985 Souza by not getting my order in quickly. I ended up with the other three.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Just found some VPs at a local grocery store on discount. The prices were OK but not great, so I talked the wine steward down quite a bit if I took four bottles:

1985 Smith Woodhouse VP
2000 Dow's VP
2003 Cockburn VP
2007 Graham's VP

$70 on the SW. $60 on the rest.
