Re: difficult question on Port Value Chain analysis

Would be curious to hear this as well.
Feel like a undervalued portion of costs, especially for aged tawny, is cost of capital.

Re: How long has it been since you've ordered Port in a restaurant?

Last was a glass of Royal Oporto 40 Year Old in Newark, NJ about a week ago. I end up ordering Port at restaurants fairly often. It is the perfect cap to a yummy meal and having it there on the spot works for me. Have had a number of disappointments where the wine wasnt drinkable anymore. In the end...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Largely off topic, purchased a glass of Royal Oporto 40 Year Tawny at Coimbra Restaurant in Newark, NJ for a v affordable $17 (as much as enough suckling pig for 2!). V smooth, great acidity, nuts in the finish. 93-94 pts unsure when bottled or how long the bottle had been open. Had asked for the 19...

D'Olly 89 M or Barbeito 20 Yr M?

Which would you choose?
The D'Olly goes for about $90/bottle, the Barbeito for $75...
I tried the 89 M and really enjoyed what i found to be its primary, over the top nature. Wondering if worth trying the Barbeito.

Lol Reidar. I finished my one bottle of the 88 T yesterday. Preferred the 89 M though.

Having a little Mãe Manuela now, hoping my first bottle lasts me through the 2nd half of the year... Opened it Jan 8th when my 2nd boy was born!

12 x Broadbent 10 yr Malmsey

Drank a case in the first half of the year, stocking up for the 2nd half.

Tempted to buy a few 1989 D'Oliveiras Malvazia but holding off since pricier... they are def a big step up in enjoyment tho.

Re: 1985 Fonseca

V good but, agreeing w others, would def hold off on opening one for a long time.
No fat left but not complex like it shows it will one day be.
Really no point opening one now, true infanticide at almost 30 yrs of age.

Opened a bottle back in Nov but only finished it now. Really like it and it isnt prohibitively expensive.

Re: Do you have an addiction to wine buying?

This buying wine thing is a tough one to get a handle on...
Took work taking a tough turn to get things under control. Not the best way about it but the effects seem to have lasted longer than the tough turn, which was been nice on the wallet!

Re: Do you drink more wood-aged Port today?

Definitely.
Have only been mindfully drinking port for a bit over two years and have def gone from mostly young ruby to mostly tawny+madeira.
For my palate and for the ability to drink off of several different bottles over weeks/months it has taken on a central role on my drinking.
