Re: TN: Henriques & Henriques Inauguration Wine
Opened a bottle of the original (I think 2006) bottling of this the other week. I can certainly see the "freight train of acidity" RWC described in this wine. The 2006 bottling seems to me to be less refined than the 2008 bottling for some reason, as I have enjoyed many bottles of the 2008...

I have been desperately trying to talk them into reversing this change in code. I would encourage anyone/everyone to contact them and as the same.

Important change to Winesearcher.com
As of the other day, winesearcher.com programmers have disabled proversion users from searching terms like "Madeira" with no vintage indicated. This has always been an important tool for me in searching both their retail and auction database for new Madeiras available. Their claim as to wh...

Barry,
I think around $380 if I remember correctly. Some of the bottles had signs of seepage. Prob scared a lot of people off. Wine is in fine form though

Re: TN: 1903 D'Oliveiras Boal
Noticed something interesting for those who store their bottle lying down. There is a line of sediment running longitudinally at the top portion of the bottle which may indicate that these were stored on their side. The cork slid into the bottle very easily and showed signs of seepage. I have had ot...

TN: 1903 D'Oliveiras Boal
From a batch of undated bottlings I just bought at Bonhams. When I drilled through the wax (which I need to not do from now on) the cork got pushed into the bottle. Managed to get it out though. Beautiful dark reddish color and soaring nose. Semi sweet. Very D'Oliverias style, big weighty mouthfeel ...

The bottle of 1811 Malvasia looks intriguing to me since they spell it both Malvazia and Malvasia on the label. Anyone know if this is kosher?

A very good article. My jaw kinda dropped when he reports that D'Oliveiras has approx 1.5 million liters of old wine. Looks like my future grand kids may have a crack at some after all!

Re: In Funchal - what/where to buy?
I agree with Roys post 100%. Buy something special. While "special" is a relative term, I certainly recommend picking up something that is not available in your homeland. A few bottles I encountered on the island that were noteworthy are: Barbeitos Mae Manuela (although most likely availab...

One of my favorite pairings is with Pata Negra. The acidity of the Madeira vs. the creamy/salty nature of the ham is a great mix.

Re: 1922 D'Oliveiras Boal
Since Xmas eve and this bottle, I have opened 2 other 1922 D'Oliveiras Boal from different bottling dates. Neither bottle has come close to the first one which had no bottling date on the back. I think the people who believe that some bottle age is beneficial may be on to something.
