Re: Port Potential: Cocktails
Port and Champagne sound like a good combination--but I think I'd call it something cute like a Ruby Fizz. Now there's a way to get more ladies drinking Port.

Re: Do you like to cook?
I was just thinking about this very subject today. I was curious how many of you Port lovers are also "foodies."I love to cook! I actually work as a baker for a catering company, which is fun. But I like to cook and bake at home too. I'm not sure I have a specialty--I like to cook a variet...

Re: Glass Port Sippers
That's good to know as well. I forgot to note that I chose the Riedel glass based on Roy's comments/recommendation from another thread. So thank you Roy for the good information also.

Re: Glass Port Sippers
That's good to know. As a new port drinker, I'd like to get something to drink my port from (other than a wine glass), but I think my money and kitchen space would be better spent on a pair of port glasses. (I think I'm going with the Riedel Vinum for now at least). I am slightly bothered by the tac...

Re: Yakima Valley Wineries
Thanks again for the good advice. I had no idea about bringing a glass. The "premier pass" includes a commemorative glass, and I think I may end up buying passes. Did you buy the "premier pass" when you went? If so, did you find that it was worth it? I won't be purchasing a ton o...

Re: Glass Port Sippers
Headless cats  The description says "Sipping your wine or port through the glass stem gives the liquid a more full bodied flavour by taking the fluid from the bottom of the vessel where it has not had the chance to oxidise". But aren't some ports improved by exposure to air? I tried t...

Glass Port Sippers
I ran across these port sippers at a kitchen store recently and almost picked some up, but I decided against it. I have been thinking more about them and am curious whether they are a thing commonly used by port lovers, or if they are just a cute little doodad that isn't really needed. I wonder if t...

Re: Yakima Valley Wineries
Steve,
Thank you for the info and recommendations. We are thinking of going during the Red Wine and Chocolate event. Several of those wineries are ones that appealed to me when I was doing my research.
World's largest urinal? LOL....the things that become tourist attractions....

Yakima Valley Wineries
Hello all, Has anyone visited wineries in the Yakima Valley that they can recommend (for port as well as other offerings)? I'm planning a trip in the near future and have been trying to narrow down a few wineries that are worth a visit. It will be a one or two-day trip. Also any additional tips abou...

Re: Why don't more women drink Port wine?
I did not buy any new clothes specifically for Port drinking. :-) I did buy new clothes in Porto after TAP lost my luggage, but that's a different situation. Now that I think about it, and at the risk of stereotyping ... If we told women they would have to buy new clothes for Port drinking, maybe m...

Re: Why don't more women drink Port wine?
Yes, I'm sure that perceptions about women and alcohol, or certain types of alcohol, could be cultural, or maybe just influenced by whatever group you hang out with. I can imagine that port would be much more widely appreciated in Portugal, where it originated. It would be interesting to know how po...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
Hello all, I am brand new to port, having tried only maybe 10 or 12 different kinds, but I think that one or two was all it took to convince me that I am a port lover. My first port was just a few months ago, one that my brother picked up to have with my chocolate birthday cake. (Six Grapes) I've be...

Re: Why don't more women drink Port wine?
I'm new to the world of wine and port, and brand new to the forum. I agree with the perception of port as a drink for the "old guy in the smoking jacket" and have to admit that as a fairly young woman I feel a little strange getting "into" port. However, as I have yet to meet a p...
