Re: 2001 Quinta do Noval Nacional just released

My local B&M sold all the 2011 Nacional they could get in two heart beats... I don't have one single bottle of Nacional in my cellar. Need at least one. I have no pro subscription to wine searcher, but sometimes if you click the "show nearest location" you can get another hit. This ti...

Re: Krohn 30 Year Old Tawny Port

Maybe when they ran out of money some years back, they turned off the cooling units in their storage? Who knows. [foilhat.gif] The 64 along with the others were out on the racks in the store, room temperature. They had a very nice, huge rare wine room, but filled with the expensive stuff. I imagine...

Re: TN:2012 Navarro Cluster Select LH Gewürztraminer

I have some as well. They tend to be very dark, alarmingly so; but they still taste fresh. Very, very rich. A little goes a long way. Do they get all Maple syrupy like an old TBA can get? All of the others I have had were in the 5-10 year range, and delicious. I enjoy the oxidation as long as enoug...

I have a couple of 70s era Robert Young and Belle Terre vineyards from Chateau St. Jean. Not sure if they have held up, but I'll find out sooner rather than later.

Re: 1945 Taylor's - real or not?

Can't tell from the photo, but are the label stains printed on the paper? I'd also closely look at the bottle. Looks too modern. Sometimes the bottle production date is on the bottom. Normally when a label gets stained the stains will partially obscure some of the printing as it is an actual layer ...

Re: 1945 Taylor's - real or not?

Blatant fake. But that doesn't look like your kitchen tiling in the background - did you buy it or is that a picture from somewhere else? If you bought it you should get a full refund but if this came through a retailer or auction house I am very disappointed that this was not pulled and destroyed....

I signed up and entered in a few wines and thought, nope, not going to do it. So I stopped. Spreadsheet is good enough for me.

Re: Krohn 30 Year Old Tawny Port

It just seems like a pretty big cliff to be solely a bottling date issue. I haven't had any "in between" bottles yet... they've either been great or completely flat and uninspiring. They're definitely getting long in the tooth for Krohn, though, so I'm sure that bottling date will soon be...

TN:2012 Navarro Cluster Select LH Gewürztraminer

8/28/16 I have had this wine several times over that past couple of years and it's stellar example of it's type. Bought at the winery and online, I need more before it's gone as it seems to be developing nicely. The specs are Harvested: Nov. 26, 2012 Sugars at harvest: 32.5° Brix Bottled: Feb. 21, 2...

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

That sounds like a sweet set up Eric. I've started to load it up with all pre-cellared bottles as not to raise temperatures. I am using a spread sheet for location and info, but am starting to port over the info to Cellar Tracker. Since I have two deep standard racking, putting things in the right p...

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

Ooo lookie here an old thread to dig up from long ago. Once we started getting into Port, well things took off rather quickly and I had several cases of Port sitting on my living room floor. I then bought an old refrigerator and converted it for wine, but it only holds ~6 cases and I have to constan...

Re: What is the BEST Port you've had so far in 2016?

The year is just heading in to Port season, so I'm thinking the best may be yet to come. The "best" Port is quite a statement as there are so many factors, many not having to do with the actual Port it self. Was properly decanted or pop-n-pour at the right temperature? By it self or with f...

This is the problem you encounter having to acquire your wines of sometimes questionable provenance. Looking back it was a gamble to buy that particular lot, but the price was right. So you pays your money and take your chances. No regrets.

Re: Establishing my port collection.

The bottles from the 70' are to rich for me and I prefer to be bolstering my cellar with 80', 90' and 00'. In US, a '94 Fonseca costs the same as most '70 vintage bottles. I don't own any '94 Fonseca. Indeed here in the US you can get an '85 Fonseca for less than $100. The 1970 is right around the ...

Hopefully the smoke won't be an issue for the grapes. Especially after verasion, grapes can actually absorb smoke compounds. It's been an issue for California a couple times in the last decade, as it's a VERY assertive flavor, and there's not much you can do about it once it's there. Sent from my i...

For me it's more of a exercise of administration rather than experience. Just off the top of my head I thought a few minutes and thought 00. Re: Payback - Premier Cru

I'm glad I was able to avoid that mess as they had a few "arriving soon" ports that I was interested in. However sorry for those whose wine was in stock, paid for and not shipped, looks like you are out of luck. On August 30, a bankruptcy judge is expected to approve the bulk sale of 75,00...
