Re: Times & cellars have changed/evolved your oldest bottle of VP & Colheita are?
Like Tim, I too am amazed at the 2,550+- bottle collection of Tom Archer-kudos...and the 27.4 year average age. I'm lucky if mine is September! Thanks to my wife, I got a nice present of a 1985 Fonseca VP today(Thanks :ftlop: for all the TNs & Info). I do not have a Colheita. My entire collectio...

Re: I have 5 bottles...where to go from here?
Is there a Glossary of Terms in FTLOP? There are various discussions on "TCA" here plus I hear the word "corked" used a bit around the site. I do not know what these mean, exactly, being a newb.
If there isn't a glossary, it might make a good addition for the newbs.

Re: I have 5 bottles...where to go from here?
:twocents: Here are a couple of things I did when I got started with my love of Port: 1. In order to increase my exposure to various ports, I started a Port Club with my friends. We each kick in some $$$, one of us buys a mixed case of port (to get that 10% to 20% discount) and we meet to taste them...

Re: 2003 Dow's LBV
Had this last night on the spur ofthe moment. Paid $23 (have paid $19 before). Decanted for 1.5 hours (would have normally done 4 as I've had this before and this seems the best minimum decant time). Clear color, a little grapey (again, that decanting time helps this). Fruity on the nose-balckberrie...

Re: Your collection ... protected with a proper cellar?
Just curious about your design--are you going subterranean?. Is there any reference material out there on how to build a wine cellar? I've got a 95 year old house with a stone foundation-cellar and numerous "rooms" defined by stone walls as well. Temp is usually 40 to 60 F--so I'd need to ...

Re: Decanting 2007s: Big Questions
Thanks all, for the decanting advice (with all the little flies doing the De-Can(t)-Can(t) over our wine in a Toulose-Latrec moment)--our meeting turned out well; lots of fun with a number of wives and their girlfriends coming after their movie excursion--our meeting turned into a party of sorts. I ...

Re: NV Warre's Warrior Port
Comments from my fellws: Full bodied port--a wild child that is unruly yet lovable. Sweet, comfortable, cozy, rough were a few adjectives provided. Smells sweet; Rough on the finish-bright color. Decant at least 48 hours ()we did 48 and it could have used more). OK for everyday. 15 out of 20. Average.

Re: 2007 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port
These are the comments from my fellows on this one: Deep color-dense. Excellent nose with hints of dark berries-pervasive yet mellow tannins-decent finish feels as if it needs to age. Very tasty, absolute joy. "The bottle is too small" was the best quip of the night. Decanted 24 hours. 18 ...

Re: Quinta Do Estanho 1994 VP
Thanks for the feedback. It was recently purchased at a store "on sale" and was on the shelf upright. It is not a fine wine store--rather a discount liquor store, so it could have been on the shelf stored upright for a while. The cork was fine, it came out nicely in one piece.

Quinta Do Estanho 1994 VP
We had this Friday night and am a bit perplexed. The bottle says "vintage port"--yet this wine presented intself like a tawny: Red color running towards amber. Aroma offers classic oak smell-tastes of burnt caramel, cherries with a tinge of vanilla. Fruity with heavy oak flavor. Is any one...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
Two 2003 Dows LBV for $19 per. Drank one with two friends watching USA-Canada hockey. I opened it 5 hours prior to getting together. Color very dense and dark. Nice nose-smooth on the tongue and a slightly tight aftertaste. I've had the 2001 and 2004 as well with simialr results. Key is they have to...

One more question...So I've decanted the port. Do I leave the stopper/cork out for the 24-36 hours to let the wine breathe or do I replace it?

Hi Moses;
Into a decanter, but likley not the Burmester. I do not have that many decanters. Curious....What is the difference? Thanks.

Decanting 2007s: Big Questions
Key question: We having a Port Club meeting in a few days and I've got some 2007's. After reading Roy's 2007 notes, I get the impression the best thing to do is to decant these a few days prior to the meeting which goes against his "decanting guidelines"--esp. the 12 hour max. rule. So I a...

Re: 2000 Dow's Vintage Port
Well balanced, exquisite port. Just lovely on the tongue, complex with good fruit and tannin combo--slightly bitter aftertaste. Had this with my Port Club to an overall ranking of 7.9, which for our scale is high. 3/29/10 edit: The 7.9 is on a 10 point scale--for a 20 point it is more of an 18 (well...

Re: 2007 Croft Vintage Port -- (Cask Sample)
My fellows (A small port club) & I rated this very high. Nicely balanced, good aroma, good on the palate with a wonderful finsh. Rating on a 1-10 scale, this one got a 9.0, a very high rating for us (average is 6.7).
