Re: New CellarTracker info
I appreciate the time that the programmer has put into this, and the time that the he has spent patiently responding to queries (and criticism) in other forums, but personally i still greatly greatly prefer the classic mode and am really thankful for the fact that it has been retained alongside the ...

Re: New Smith Woodhouse labeling spotted
Was this a filtered variety of LBV? Or was it just a very recent bottle matured LBV with only 2 years of bottle maturity before being sold? Wasn't clear to me from the label, and not stated on the website. I had assumed filtered (similar to the two different Warre LBV bottlings - bottle matured unf...

Re: 1992 Churchill Agua Alta Port
This house is of recent vintage, going back to only 1981 and the owner was unable to use his own name (Graham) so used the maiden name of his wife for their new Port house. To elaborate, i think the company itself is called "Churchill Graham", but the port is sold under the brand "Ch...

Re: 2011 Vintage Port
I know that David Guimaraens is very high on 2012's, as just one example.... So, while I am confident that 2011 will be very widely declared, there's always the possibility that a player like TFP comes along and upsets the apple cart by declaring the 2012 instead. Any chance they could declare both...

Re: 2011 Vintage Port
If both 2011 and 2012 are promising but show different characteristics, what i think would be quite fun to see (though have limited expectations of materialising) are some serious attempts at premium crusted ports using 2011/2012 grapes (along the lines of eg: the old Noval crusteds from the 60s)

Re: 2000 Sandeman Vau Vintage Port
My 1988 is Quinta do Vau. I didn't think the newer "Vau Vintage" juice was any different, but just jazzy new marketing label. My guess is its no longer SQ per your comment, good to know! I think 1988 was the only vintage of Quinta do Vau produced (so they could release a VP on thei...

Re: TWA truth is revealed ...
This article seems only half thought-out. In the UK, transfers of shareholdings (apart from transfers by directors/major shareholdings in a listed company) would only be revealed in searches at the central registry when a company files its annual return (i.e. once a year!). I have no idea whether th...

Re: 2008 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port
I agree, but i know others who don't. Richard Mayson, for one, has scored both the 08 and the 04 Novals higher than the 07 on his site. Regardless, it shows the quality that the Noval vineyards seem to be able to produce year-in year-out.Roy Hersh wrote:No doubt the 2007 is better, for now and the future ...

No - hadn't even heard of him until this story popped up a couple of months ago. Did a google search of his name and his resume seems rather impressive!

Re: 2002 Dow's Crusted Port
2002 Dow's Crusted (or, rather, the BBR b.o.b version of it) was my first "regular" drinker alongside Noval 03 LBV - I was a big fan and a couple of years ago i thought offered a level of quality that only a few of the generally available "supermarket" LBVs reached. I wish i'd br...

Re: Churchill's White Port
I believe a dryish White Port cannot have an indication of age At a London tasting recently i had the Fonseca Sirocco. Whilst it didn't particularly appeal to me, it did make me wonder whether there were any "premium" dry whites on the market. I do like aged whites (DALVA, obviously, and ...

Re: The horrible concrete-like wax capsules!
While we are on the subject, I do have one of those nightmare bulb plastic caps. What is the best way of getting rid of it and exposing the cork (if not tonging the bottle)? The technique that works best for me is to slide a small screwdriver under the lip of the cap and then lever it off. They ten...

I think this happened back in September....
In some ways, and without knowing full details, i think it is a bit of a shame that there was not a working relationship - Berardo seems like a very impressive individual with great vision.

Re: 2008 Robert Hall Winery Vintage Port
Either 2008 VPs or 2008 LBVs. Anything of approximately the same age. I suspect I would simply pass this off as a smaller or lesser-known producer rather than thinking it was from California. In a flight of VPs I might think it was an LBV. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 Ok...so a seriou...

Re: 2008 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port
I was also very impressed by this. In fact, for an "off year", i've ended up buying an awful lot of VP! It will be interesting to see how this, the Quevedo Agodinho and Niepoort Bioma stand up to their 07 counterparts over the coming years. I think 07 Noval still has the edge over the 08 N...

Re: Port with Gingerbread?
Looking through Cellartracker this morning I found another possibility in our cellar as well - a 2005 Noval LBV. Youthful, powerful and inexpensive! Which one? :stir: I think that 2005 is the year that Noval made both their normal LBV and a special "single Quinta" LBV. I only know this be...
