1904 Sandeman Vintage Port
1904 Sandeman VP Bottle from an auction and was labelled "believed Sandeman". The cork read 1904 vintage but no indication of the port house. This port was a light brown/tawnyish colour, though it did have a bit of ruby left, and was cloudy. Tilting the glass gave way to a rim clear as wa...

1900 Niepoort Colheita Port
1900 Nieport Colheita Bottled in 1972 This port had a great colour, diluted "cola" brown with a bright yellow rim. A swirl in the glass showed heavy tears, which I later checked and saw that it's at 22% alc. The aromas to me reminded me of coffee with a sprinkle of cinnamon. The first sip...

Re: Seattle area tasting, 7/31/2010
I guess I can get the tasting notes for this event started off! First of all, thank you Glenn and Roy for putting together such an epic tasting, [cheers.gif] these wines were much, much older than what I've tried before and it was a real treat. A great way to celebrate the 5th anniversary of :ftlop:...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
I was in Portland 3 weeks ago for a short vacation and as I was walking around town I found a deli with a "We sell Port and Champagne here!" sign which obviously quickly got me in the door ;) Inside I found a nice selection of port and a bunch of French reds (Bordeaux, CdP, though I didn't...

Re: Tuesday 12th October, London - 55 @ 55 Tasting
Alex, I didn't want to commit at first because I'm only 75% sure I'd be able to make it, however, I see the last two spots haven't been claimed during the last 3 weeks - would it be possible to tentatively accept and confirm in a month? This sounds like an amazing tasting and not something I want to...

Re: TOP PORT IN FIRST HALF OF 2010?
I'm going to have to go with the 1975 Kopke Colheita, I really enjoyed this one (also tasted at the event @ Glenn's that Dom described) - although, the 1970 Taylor VP was great as well. If I'm able to stretch 3 weeks into 2009, I'd say the '52 Dalva (delicious!). I also suspect my answer to this que...

Hi Glenn,
I should be able to make this one - count me in. Same hotel I stayed at last time so should be easy to find :)

Graham's sounds good! I'll check to see if the 2005 LBV's have made it to BC yet, if not, I'll grab an earlier LBV and at least it'll serve to add some verticleness to this month's VT

Re: Help for 2 Brits on Tour! NW America/Canada
Glenn, Great tasting notes. Thanks again for hosting - it was lots of fun and definitely worth the trip! I took the Seattle folks suggestion and checked out Pike Place Market the next day and loved it. I stopped by the shop Melanie was talking about (The Spanish Table) and found quite a decent selec...

Hey Glenn,
Would you have room for one more? I think I could probably take the afternoon off from work to drive down

1994 Graham's Vintage Port
Decanted for 3-5 hours. Colour is starting to show some age with a hint of brick. On the nose it is fruity mixed with heat. Blackberries and strawberries predominately. On the palate it is very jammmy (dark fruits) and fruit forward with soft tannins balancing it. If you like your ports fruity and s...

Re: About scoring Port
Lasts twice as long eh? An interesting theory...Glenn E. wrote:Port is also less expensive than wine because you drink less of it. (Normal people drink less of it, at least.) A serving of Port is half the size of a serving of wine, so that $80 bottle lasts twice as long.

How bout a 27 year old enjoying port an cigars? I feel like one in a million. [cheers.gif] Have you beat by two years 8--) 25 [cheers.gif] And as far as my fanaticism, I keep all my VP corks in vase and a bottle of each unique VP I drink. My friends always think it's weird when I bring the empty po...

Re: Question on the 64 Krohn White Colheita
I tasted this with Goncalo (although right after the '52 Dalva, which is hard to beat) and it was very good! $80 sounds quite reasonable for a wine of this quality - I would certainly snap one up at that price

Re: Quinta do Noval LBV - vintage rating
The unfiltered will say "Unfiltered" on the front label whereas the filtered one will say nothing about it being filtered. I think those are all old enough that they might say "Tradicional" which means the same thing. "Tradicional" was prohibited on labels in ... 2005?...

Decanting Rubys/LBVs
In the past, I've usually only been decanting my VPs and unfiltered LBVs but I think I want to start decanting some "everyday" ports. My question is, will this limit it's shelf life once opened, and if so by how much? If I have a ruby or filtered LBV in an open top decanter, will the quali...
