Here in Denmark, Rozes unfiltered LBV is quite common. The Vintages i remember are 1994, 1995 and 1997 (95 and 97 are the ones being sold at the moment). It's quite good. (price somewhere between 15-20US$) Also, Warres Unfiltered is also widely available (1995). it's between 20-25US$. Both are in di...

Re: Colheitas, the least understood Port?

* Do you see many of them on the shelves or do you really have to shop for them? I really have to shop for them. * What is the most that you willing to spend on a Colheita? 100$US * Should the Port trade increase their production of Colheitas? Yes - or the retailers in Denmark should increase their...

What was the confusion it caused? Well, it was hard to find out who made it, and "why". BoB's aren't that common in DK and many had tried to find out who this Morgado was. Not much comes up on the web. To read, that it was bought by Ferreira only made confusion that much bigger, as it was...

In Denmark, one of the large supermarket-chains has bottles and bottles of Porto Morgado Vintage Port (1987) at a very nice price (around 20US$). It bottled by Forrester and it's caused quite some confusion around the Wine/port sites in Denmark. Henrik Oldenburg, a danish wine journalist and author ...

I've tasted it now. Wow... I never had anythin but 10yo's - except come old colheitas - when it came to old tawny, but this was mindblowing. Quinta do Noval 20 Year Old Tawnu (bottled 2002) The texture of this wine was extraordinarily oily. It almost had to be scraped out of the bottle. The color wa...

From what I know, sealing wax forms a hermetic seal. However since it's expensive and troublesome to rid the bottle of, few producers use it anymore.

In some of the older "friends"-episodes, you can see the Ramos-Pinto logo of the two lovers or whatever toasting in two glasses of port. (the woman has really short hair. That points to a 1920's-style, thus the logo would be quite old). I think it in the character "Monica"'s bedr...

Burmester 1987 - bottled in 2003. This one was a bargain (IIRC ablut 10-12$/bot.) and I find it terrific. I'd like to try some older ones, but I don't have the finances...yet.

I voted yes, but was doubtful wether to vote at all. Problem is that I'm not sure what the alternative is. Does a broader focus mean including Sherry or red wine or whatever? Or does it mean more focus on port in general. Was it up to me, this forum dealt with nothing but port - and another forum wo...

Thanks. I've bought them. Now I'm just waiting for a bit of cold weather before tasting. I don't want to "judge" quality port in 28+ degrees C.

Thanks Andy. About the early bottling, I know that X-yo's don't improve in the bottle, but do you think they deterioate rapidly or..? I was under the impression that aged X-yo's could last for years and years, but never become better that when bottle. In other words - would you hesitate (considering...

Quinta do Noval 20 Yo

I've seen this wine (bottled 2002) and would like to hear if anyone has any input on this particular wine (20 yo's from noval - not nessecarily the 2002-bottling).

Oh, btw it's fairly cheap. Around (less-than) 30US$ pr bottle.

"In general, is a Colheita of the same age "better" than a dated Tawny?" No, not necessarily. The reason, I think, is that colheita is to aged tawny what vintage is to crusted port. Usually you can get colheitas that are much older than the 40yo that's the oldest aged tawny (I've...

I buy VP's in magnum-sizes from time to time. I find it wonderful some day, with a few of my friends and relatives, to pop up a magnum sandeman or whatever and really go decadent on VP.

Nah, it's their "regular" or company-colheita. One of them's got at long cork. Does that mean anything?

Porto Pocas Colheitas

Does anyone have any experience with colheitas from this producer? I'm especially interested 1987 and 1990.

Thanks in advance.

Warres LBV "New Style" 1998

I saw this wine on a discount, but I'm not sure what to make of it. Does anyone have any experience with this particular port (I guess it's supposed to be different from warre's traditional LBV)?
