I'm also in the process of organizing a Port Tasting for my beer drinking friends, and have much of my lineup set, but this thread sparked the idea for the following question: You are throwing a Port Tasting for non-Port drinkers. Ghost in the machine

We have a ghost in the machine that we are trying to track down.

Nose is a little closed, but some raspberry on the palate with some alcohol. Medium long finish with heat that continies on throught the end. 89 points (2/1/08)

1977 Fonseca Vintage Port

Dark plum color. Cassis and slight spice on the nose. Heat on the approach. Prune on the mid-palate and a medium long finish with a touch of heat. The heat dissipated after some swirling in the glass. 92 points. 10/4/2007

Reddish with brown/orange tones. Dark fruit on the nose. Firm tannins on the mid-palate. Medium-long finish with a slight touch of spice on the finish. 91 points. 10/4/2007

1985 Fonseca Vintage Port

Color is a dark, almost opaque, purple. Blackberry nose. Good tannins on the mid-palate. Good mouthfeel with some residual fruit and a long finish. Good structure. It probably could benefit from some more time, though. 95 points. 10/4/2007

Fruit on the nose still needs a little integration. Swirling the glass produces some grapiness. Surprisingly integrated tannins and fruit on the palate, though. Finish turns big and tannic. 94 points. 10/4/2007
