I think we have to blow away a lot of Cobwebs away on this subject. I would hazard a guess there are only a handful of Port Experts who are generally correct at Blind Tastings. I was at a cracker a while back, where some reknown Port experts had a blind Cruz 87, and had it as coming from a major Hou...

Maybe 2015, but probably 2020+.

No brainer. I don't like young Port.

My only concession is a Vertical were you taste a youngster to gauge development.

Re: Iraq

this is one of the most inconvenient side effects of 9-11. Well, it is certainly inconvenient, even if only lightly so on the scale of the suffering of the Iraqis. Roy, I knew what you meant. It's a fair comment. But Julian's reply is blistering! You must always remember, amongst the thieves and va...

Would you believe you can take a cork out of a bottle with a hankerchief?

Before you dismiss me as a crank, I was shown how to do it and it works.

Curious??? A few of you will know I do not jest.

Next week its Germany and Ireland. The week after its Sweden and the US. Must remember to pack my bag... That itinerancy would have been a huge adventure in my younger years. But the thought of that now has made me go quite puce! Airports, packing, flights, hotel rooms!!! I'm definately a home boy now...

. I would love to see more Crusted and more (Unfiltered) LBV wines offered in the UK - but only ones where they have been bottled aged for far longer that they currently are. Alex Thanks, for that quote. Now I dont feel I'll make Roy's eyes roll, when I answer, Vintage. At least 20+years old. Havin...

Just to help, I choose less than most novices. But, I have the same problem as mentioned previously. I have Off Licences nearby, Supermarkets, etc, who buy decent port at a National level, and stock their stores. The human being you deal with, knows the price and how the barcode works, and thats it. ...

I can see I'm part of the problem. I'll go for anything thats 90 plus. I know its not a guarentee but an indication. In a fast world, where you often haven't got time to study in detail, its a short cut. I've tried to get our Tasting Note Section set up in a similar way. The article explains the Pro...

Just a bit of Fun Roy. I thought your jumping to conclusions was worthy of my careful editing. It'll be fun to eventually meet you, at some stage, but it is worth remembering it takes all sorts, and variety is the spice of life. We're very different with a mutual interest/passion, even if your versi...

This was a point from a person Roy 'trusts greatly' on decanting, which although I choose not to follow, I thought was a great explanation of that point of view. I am going to quote someone whose Port opinion I trust greatly: "Extended decanting of Port and especially VP is a good thing. But go...

Blimey!

Todd, my dear friend,

The only time you ever hear anyone using that word, you will find you are watching that great thespian Dick Van Dyke doing his great Cocker-Knee accent for the delictation of the Americans.
His Lawrence Olivier type performances still bring a tear to my eye.

I'm drinking the Warre's Unfiltered 1995 LBV as I type. Thanks to Derek getting me a dozen for £5 each. I hope its not the fact its a bargain affecting my judgement, but what a marvelous drink. Smooth and rich with a nutty aftertaste. I've had a run of poor LBV's from reknown Shippers (like Taylors,...
