Re: The Next Great "Subscriber's Only" Buyer's Op

I'm late to the party, but for what it is worth, it would make no difference to me.

Just think of me as the guy that gives input that adds little, after the fact.

Thanks for the sentiments all. I will definitely have my eye out for the 85 and will probably give the 83 a try if I see some of that as well.

This may make you cry...

...I sure did. I've been swamped like I haven't been in years at work (better than the opposite in this economy), so I've been away from FTLOP for a while--rarely more than a quick check to try to avoid missing out on a buying opp. But: On NYE, we enjoyed a bottle of 1970 Fonseca with our good frien...

Decant time for 1970 Fonseca VP

Recommended decant time?

I read the TNs on this, and the only indication I saw was that 4 hours is too short.

I'm thinking 8 hours minimum, which is about what I did a 1970 Taylors a couple of months ago.

Buying a new car--advice, incentives

I am in need of a new car (thinking volvo S80). The incentives on 2010s right now are 4000 dealer incentive and 1000 for volvo loyalty (our current car is a volvo). This 5000 off "ends" Jan 4, and they "don't know" what the incentives will be like after that. Seems like they shou...

Re: Are you bothered by a swarm of daily email wine sales offering?

The only ones I get are by choice right now, and I'm happy with it. I'm a buyer in 2010.

Re: Planning Ahead: Port for New Year's Eve

I hinted at this in the thread about our oldest bottles, as this New Year's Eve will kill a few of my oldest, but the plan for NYE is:

1970 Fonseca VP
1964 Quinta do Noval Colheita

Re: LAST BOTTLES OF THE WONDERFUL DALVA GOLDEN WHITE 1952

I just sent off the payment for 3 bottles of this one. Looking forward to trying it when I can get my hands on it sometime in 2010 perhaps.

What can I say, everyone has talked it up so much and I am weak...

Re: Times & cellars have changed/evolved your oldest bottle of VP & Colheita are?

As an update, I just decided to get three of the 1952 Dalva's (one a surprise for a good friend), so that will be my new oldest, though I will not actually possess them for some time.

As others have said, the slope is definitely slippery. [cheers.gif]

Re: Times & cellars have changed/evolved your oldest bottle of VP & Colheita are?

Oldest VP is a 1970 Fonseca, although that will only be true for about 9 more days... Oldest colheita is 1964 Noval, and that will only be true for about 9 more days as well. Then a 68 Noval and a handful of 87 Barros. I jointed FTLOP almost exactly 1 year ago with 4 bottles of port to my name, that...

Good port-loving friends in for an annual new year's visit. They'll be in 3 nights, and the lineup will include: 1970 Fonseca one or both of the 1964 and 1968 Noval Colheitas from the buying op a few months ago Noval 40 year Probably a Graham's 40 year that I just gave the wife for her birthday Laye...

Wish I had seen this before I bought 4.

Well, I probably would have gotten them anyway. It is nice to see Port at WTSO.

Re: Notice from Noval (USA) re: shipping "Buyers Op"

Roy--to be sure, you have no responsibility in this, and if that came through from my post, it was not intended. I was only trying to note that it was not for lack of some effort on my part to figure out when the port would arrive. Also, I never lost faith or had any concern that it would not get he...

I saw this one on my train to work, and it was gone before I got there, so I missed it too.

Don't see too many ports on WTSO, and that one went fast.

Re: Notice from Noval (USA) re: shipping "Buyers Op"

Roy, I have had at least three calls with them over the past few months, and a few emails. Always the response was, it is going to ship soon, with some explanation for why it had not yet... I have always kept the faith, as I have confidence in you, and others received theirs, but I have to say this ...
