Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

A Justerini and Brooks own-label 1977 VP "specially shipped" by Smith Woodhouse - £30. Bought on impulse - thought it was worth a shout given the price and Smith Woodhouse's reputation as an insider's bargain for this vintage. Noticed on arrival home that it had a "Gould Campbell"...

Re: Port labels

- Pete, I certainly wasn't implying the invention of crests, but your point is a good one. And i wouldn't necessarily advocate making the labels more complicated or intricate for the sake of it. In fact, I think there's a real charm to the blocky font and rough-around-the-edges design of many 60s an...

Port labels

Looking through the photo galleries/ PORTraits, I have to confess to thinking that there was a bit more imagination that went into the production of port bottles in previous eras. By comparison, most modern-day labels strike me as being, on the whole, quite standardised. Do you like/prefer modern po...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Thanks all! - Roy - investing in the 2007 is an interesting one and something i considered. I don't doubt the benefits of buying young and holding, but given limited financial resources there's something of an opportunity cost to this. I spent recently a little over what it would have cost me to get...

Re: 1970 horizontal

Thanks - looks like I can get hold of the Croft and Offley at reasonable prices, there's also a Noval 70 that is tempting and seems to be well received here.

Has anyone tried the Pocas 1970 colheita?

1970 horizontal

Hi everyone, I'm planning a 1970s horizontal with some friends who all enjoy port but probably would struggle to name a vintage beyond '77 or a label beyond the more than the obvious Symington/ Taylor-Fladgate brands. So far I have sourced a Taylor, Fonseca and Graham at reasonable prices and from r...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi, Bit of an introduction - I'm from London, aged late 20s (all too suddenly) and relatively new as a discriminating (!) port drinker - possibly a good thing as am still at the beginning of my career and therefore only just able to start thinking about the more classic VPs... What really piqued my ...
