1999 Quinta do Noval Quinta do Marco vintage port

This combined label with Noval and another quinta was new for me. Found at Noval wine shop in Pinhao, Douro early June this year. Purchased one bottle. Little info to be found, but apparently it has been declared in three vintages: 1983, 1989 and 1999. In J. D. A. Wisemans book “Port Vintages” the 1...

NV Adega de Favaios Monge 20 years tawny

Early June this year Emmy and I visited Adega de Favaios in order to learn more about their moscatel production. Favaios is located fairly close to the town Alijo, both of them within the Douro region. To our surprise they have started to produce port wines. It was basic ruby, basic tawny and basic ...

Very nice (and powerful) aroma of dark red berries. Medium to full body. At start of the tasting it was more acidity than preferred, but seconds late...

2002 Warre's LBV port

Seen from a vintage port view 2002 is regarded as a poor year. However, I have seen a couple of LBVs where the comments seem to be OK. I purchased this bottle last year at a wine shop in Porto (on the Ribeira-side). Bottled 2006. Decanted 4.5 hrs, but waited to consume after 6 hrs decanting, which w...

Decanted 1 hr. Medium yellow colour. Fresh and fruity aroma. Medium body. Taste is powerful and elegant with plenty of fruit. Acidity is on a low level, which suits me. Subsequently, I like the acidity/sweetness-balance. Well-structured white Douro-wine. Medium length aftertaste. Will buy more. 92 p...

Re: DR 40 Year Old Tawny Port

I am glad it was a good bottle.
During the last 2-3 years I have had some problems with this product (been unlucky I guess), as acidity is too much too much and oxidation has taken place. That has happened with bottlings 2014, 2017 and 2019.

TN: 2013 Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas Reserva Douro red

Deep dark red colour. Aroma dominated by berries. Full body. Taste was powerful with plenty of fruit and some min...

NV Agri-Roncao DR 30 years old tawny

Bottled 2020. Decanted 2 hrs, which appeared OK. At 1 hr there was some alcohol in the aroma, but that faded away during 2nd hour. Transparent medium brown. Aroma of citrus, minerals and a touch of alcohol. Full body. Powerful, elegant, citrus, slightly “sharp” in style. Well-structured and a nice a...
