Re: What Ports will you be sharing/drinking for Christmas & New Years?

We usually have a good size Christmas dinner (10+ people) and most have had very little to no exposure to port. I've decided to go with a bottle of Taylor's Fine White Port as an aperitif and a Quinta do Noval 2007 VP for desert! No Douro wines for the table though. Two BC's (2006 Mission Hill Oculu...

Re: Seattle-based Port Tasting @ Esquin's 12/17

Steve, Curious as to what you thought of the Kopke Rose? Andy, I tried this one a few weeks ago in Porto (my first Rose, though I've since also tried Quevedo's Rose @ Vinologia's) and I liked it and found it interesting. My tasting notes say sweet, little tarty, some oak, light berries and medium d...

Re: Churchill's Vertical Tasting

I'd certainly be interested if it was in WA state (quick trip for me) :-)

Unfortunately no Churchill in the cellar, but I'd have to find something suitable to bring!

Re: 375ml vs. 750ml in Vintage Port

As I usually enjoy VPs alone, I definitely prefer the 375ml format and usually quickly snatch up any I find for sale in Vancouver. For the bottles I plan to lay down for many years, I do go for 750mls. I do like the idea of pouring half of a 750 into a 375 and saving it for a few days (I think I cou...

Roy,

I also saw that bottle of 1912 Maderia there from your last harvest tour (I believe). Looks like I was a few months too late [cheers.gif]

Just returned from Porto

Well I just returned from Europe yesterday, including my first trip to Porto. It was definitely amazing, although little did I know that last Tuesday is a Portuguese holiday. Even still, I managed to visit the majority of the caves open to the public. One of the highlights of the tour was visiting V...

Re: Port & Wine Shopping in Oporto

Managed to visit Azeitoneira do Porto twice earlier this week and quite liked it. Bought a bottle as well as some olive oil and jam to bring home. I also bought some bread and olives as a snack and it was quite good.

I tried looking for AVEPOD but unfortunately couldn't find it.

Was this decanted, and if so for about how long?
Hi Andy,

I suspect this could have been part of the problem of why I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd like to have. Only about an 1 to 1.5hrs (due to impatience ) :D I suspect giving it a few mores hours would've helped.

Very dark red colour. Colourful and fruity nose with strawberries, cherries and black currents. Fruit and berry flavours continue when sipped as well as some cedar. Not too sweet. Moderate to short finish. Very good. 89 points

Tasted the same bottle tonight (02 Nov 09). I'm new to writing tasting notes. Describing port is a lot tougher than enjoying it! Graham's Vintage Port 2007 with Roquenfort Papillon Blue Cheese (France, raw milk) Complicated and fruity boquet with a very nice nose. Strawberry, and blackberries are st...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi Roy,

The Playhouse International Wine Festival is probably my favourite week of the year! A Port tasting trip to Seattle would be great - I'll keep my eyes open. Out of curiosity, do you have any preferred shops to pick up Port when in Vancouver?

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi everyone, I'm a young (25) professional from Vancouver and though enjoy all sorts of wine, Port is definitely my favourite. I've been enjoying it for about two years now (mainly LBV, Colheitas and Tawnys) and definitely looking to get into some good VPs. Unfortunately, being from Canada certainly...

Hi everyone, I'm planning my first trip to Porto around that time around for maybe 3-5 days. Planning on exploring Porto and Villa Novo de Gaia. Vinologia is a definite stop for me! I also read another review of Tromba Rija on this forum and it sounded amazing! Is it possible to just walk around Vil...
