Re: Port Beneficio Graph from 2001-2020
You know , I get the feeling that regardless of whether the beneficio is raised or lowered , the price of vintage port or premium tawnys varies little in the Québec , Ontario or canadian markets. [dash1.gif] We have a monopoly situation in these 2 province's that have wreaked havoc with the laws of ...

Re: Port and the Pandemic -- your consumption habits
I think my port consumption has increased over last year
This is primarily due to having more port nights with my significant other and my 18 yr old daughter
In fact our port consumption has increased by 57 % compared to this time last year

Re: Vintage VS. Tawny
Like Andy said , there are so many moving parts ...
One of them being "house style"
Some houses produce one dimensional ports , not made for the long term
Others specialize in tawnys
Here again , the house style comes into play

You can give 20 yr old tawnys a go
Give Smith Woodhouse a whirl , their vp's sometimes rival the big boys for less the price
Don't neglect any unfiltered LBV's

Re: Need advice on what to buy for my Dad...
Agree with almost everything Glenn said
I would rather pick 20 yr old tawnys
Not only are they half the price of a 40 yr old tawny but also they are more balanced

Re: 2018 Vintage Port
I am of the contrary opinion
Tom's perspective seems more accurate
With a large inventory and the outlook of 2019 being a subpar harvest
Their was no pressing need to release earlier

Re: Is this quarantine becoming expensive for anyone else?
For me , the confinement has given me a reason to drink lbv's and tawnys ( my better half prefers these over vp or colheita
Of course , logically this gives me the port buying opportunities that are necessary to replenish the stock

Re: Your favorite 20 year-old Tawny?
In quebec , Ramos Pinto is in a league of its own
But at 95.00$
In 2nd place is Sandeman (more acidity)
Cabral 20 yr old tawny has the best quality/ price ratio at 53.00$

Re: Rating SQVP vs fully declared
Never changed a rating Regardless who the producer was or an lbv or a sqvp That's not to say I've had to change any pre conceived notion regarding a producer. Have also been on a limited budget since being a member (2006) However, as a senior member once said : beware, you've just embarked on a slip...

If I'm following you guy's correctly (and that's a big if)
If an lbv is bottled 4 to 6 yrs after harvest, would it not be possible to have some declared vp being labeled as lbv
