Re: 1 afternoon and evening in the Douro: suggestions?

hey Paul, the restaurant is Casa do Escritor. it's simple but nice and they are super friendly. ) Does this place also have a wine shop attached or part of it? If so, how was it (if you checked it out that is)? Hi Andy, if you look at TripAdvisor for the Writer's Place Restaurant at Pinhão you can ...

Re: 1 afternoon and evening in the Douro: suggestions?

Hi Bert, see you are (were) in the Douro again and made an interesting visit. What's the name of the restaurant you mentioned. End of May my wife and I will be in Provesende again for some days (you know where :-) ). Any chance of seeing you then?

Was it the 2015 (as the title of the post states) or the 2013 (as the label tells us)?

Re: Am I the only one who did not get a newsletter in 2018??????

The previous years there has been 4 newsletters per year with November & December rounding of the year. Also a buy OP or two. This year nothing so far, which is disappointing. I think a clear statement of what we can expect as subscribers going forward would be in order. Really very, very disap...

Re: Am I the only one who did not get a newsletter in 2018??????

You are not. There has not been one this year. For me, it's slightly disappointing (and that is an understatement!!) there is none until now, even more so as Roy promised several times (in July, August, September and October) it would be a matter of days before the next one to be published. I was g...

Re: SOGRAPE has purchased a property in Alentejo

There is good interest in buying properties in these less hilly areas of Portugal where one can farm using far less manual labor than the Douro. Way more cost effective than the Douro is for making relatively inexpensive or moderately priced dry wines. IIRC, this Quinta was owned by Richard Mason p...

Re: 1987 + 1997 Quinta do Javali colheita/tawny port

Hi Rune, Thanks a lot for your note and picture. Visited Quinta do Javali a couple of years ago and was very impressed by the quality of their wines, both port (including very good LBV) and still red wines. In NL the wines are limited availble (last Reserva Old Vines being 2012) and from port their ...

Re: 2016 Vintage Declarations

Today i got the first prices for a 2016 Vintage Port. It is the Kopke 2016 Vintage Port. We will be selling at €44,95 enprimeur. I tasted the 2016 vintage port (cask sample) @ Prowein, it confirmed me again that Kopke keeps on improving with there vintage ports. Your price is very different (in a p...

Paul Metman asked: Interesting, that you mention and recommand Murças VP '15! I visited Murças this year May and the winemaker told me they were very proud of their VP '15. I was surprised (and a little bit disappointed ;-) ) not to find the Murças VP '15 in Roy's review in Newsletter 94. Do you ha...

Re: Time to abandon "Generally Declared" Vintages for Port?

........... I love the diversity and the fact that certain producers in certain years really hit a home run. Anyone looking to buy a big, grown up 2015 vintage port should take a good look at Murcas... Interesting, that you mention and recommand Murças VP '15! I visited Murças this year May and the...

Re: TN: 2014 Quevedo Grande Reserva Douro red

Decanted 2 hrs. I recommend 2 - 2.5 hrs as it opened during the interval around 1.5-2.5 hrs. Dark purple colour. Deep appealing aroma of berries (especially blackcurrant) along with minerals, all in a subdued way. Medium to full body. Taste is powerful, elegant, quite a mouthful with a lot of berri...

Re: 2015 Graham's The Stone Terraces Vintage Port

From a cask sample Decanted this young port for 8 hours, maybe a hour or two was better. The port has an intense purple-red color. In addition to a little alcohol, I smell cassis and plums, very tempting. After a good sip I taste cherries, raspberries, pure chocolate with a hint of pepper. The fini...
