Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
Hello All, I hail from The Berkshires in Massachusetts. I'm very new to port and have yet to actually try a VP but do enjoy a Ruby or LBV most evenings. Looking forward to learning from you all. welcome, Mike! i didn't have my first VP until about a year ago, with guidance and encouragement from th...

Re: Wine Tasting Journal
i certainly like the digital copies, and have a lot i need to type up here. but i remembered seeing people mention going through their [physical] notebooks, i've always really liked notebooks and journals though never had much use for them, so i thought it would be nice to have physical copies in a ...

Re: Wine Tasting Journal
how are your journals organised? i just got a nice notebook i want to transcribe my TNs into. right now they're in a top spiral bound steno pad that also has notes from dance workshops, rough drafts of letters, and various other topics in it. my TNs are written in chronological order of when i taste...

Re: which LBV should i open for Valentine's Day?
i've had Quevedo's Crusted, my only Crusted so far. it's wonderful! we did a vertical of the Ruby, that bottle of 2011 LBV, and Crusted. it's definitely the best balanced i've had of anything by them and that was shown off really well in the vertical. i think i understand what "balanced" m...

Re: which LBV should i open for Valentine's Day?
I've seen the 2011 Quevedo LBV in State Stores in PA.....but in the northeast its always in two pack with a 10 year tawny with a hefty price tag IMHO. oh, i've never seen that. i haven't seen it on the website, either. i've gotten the half bottles in a sampler of their more basic products. and once...

Re: which LBV should i open for Valentine's Day?
The Quevedo 2011 LBV is lightly filtered according to Oscar Quevedo and he told me he thinks it will peak at around 7-10 years of age. thanks! so for half bottles would that be 5-7 years? does that mean the Quevedo halves are peaking now for the next couple years? i have a few LBVs i don't know any...

Re: which LBV should i open for Valentine's Day?
If drinking all soon then it won't matter either way, otherwise I would prioritise drinking the halves first. the Fonseca are unfiltered. the Quevedo don't say but have T stoppers, so i assume are filtered. i could drink them all within the year [or less] or i can put them away at least for a coupl...

Re: 2012 Offley LBV Port
nice! that sounds way better than their 2010. at $15 i couldn't complain about it too much, but i'd prefer a nice Reserve. i'll keep an eye out for this one.

Re: which should i open for Valentine's Day?
They're all on the young side to open for VP, so with that in mind I would the 2010 Delaforce. You may want to buy a tawny or colheita and save the VP for the future. Delaforce is probably the one that is the most advanced in age out of your picks. no VP, unfortunately. all LBV. does that change yo...

i have a few LBVs i don't know anything about. which should i open for Valentine's Day? i'll probably be on my own. Quinta do Noval 2009 unfiltered Delaforce 2010 Fonseca 2011 unfiltered Quevedo 2011 [half bottle] ["lightly filtered" according to Oscar Quevedo] i've had the Quevedo and enj...

Re: Savory&James
wooooah. last night my friends and i did a tasting of six Rubies: Quevedo, Cockburn, Croft, TF, Maynard's, and this. we did it blind, not even i knew which bottle was which. this Savory&James won! it was unanimously WotN and by a pretty wide margin. the only other one anyone considered drinkable...

the last 6 Fonseca Terra Bella Reserve in the county because it's on sale for $16 [$6 cheaper than bin 27, my go-to] Cockburn 2011 LBV 2 Fonseca 2011 LBV Maynard's [which i've never heard of but suddenly their products are all over our shelves] Maynard's is in fact Barao de Vilar. Sandeman Founder's Reserve new label
in PA Sandeman Founder's Reserve sells for $21. it seems like every other month it goes on sale for $3 off, so that's when i buy it. a couple months ago it was on sale and had a $3 manufacturer's coupon, which brought it down to $15! the basic Tawny was also on sale with the coupon. i didn't check t...

i only have experience with low end products, Reserve and LBVs, but i've never had anything i enjoyed by Dow. i believe folks on this forum said Dow's 2008 LBV is a near-perfect example of that house in that style, so my not liking it means i don't like Dow. that's good for me to know. i've only had...

Re: NEW YEAR'S EVE Celebrations with Port
happy new year! i was with two of my Port tasting group at a big party of acquaintances. there was mulled wine and spiced cider [it included black pepper. the cider was so strong we had to cut it with rum!] and a sparkling white wine toast at midnight, i have no idea what it was. i brought a bottle ...

Re: Christmas 2017
Merry xmas! i woke up yesterday with a cold and can barely taste or smell anything, so i think i'll have some box wine or maybe cocoa with a cordial rather than any Port. does anyone have any offbeat holiday traditions? in high school i accidentally ended up watching a weird movie every xmas eve, so...
