I, too, did absentee. And no, I did not win anything as the items went well beyond the estimate. C'est la vie. I appreciate Roy's most recent post on this. I realize it is just going to make it extremely difficult for people like me and probably many of you to procure a special bottle and tuck away ...

OK, so maybe I'm crazy but I could not resist.... I thought I'd try my hand (within reason - I'm no auction regular and I am certainly no Rockefeller).... but I could be on my death bed before any of this particularly fabulous stuff comes up again..... and so I wait for 12 hours to tick  .......

The 4pm - 6pm timing is interesting (is this a supposition that one must be in retirement to be interested in port or madeira), and on a Friday rush hour no less..... well, there goes yet another tasting opportunity......

The $38K-40K one is especially daunting.... whoever bids and wins on any of these lots is lucky indeed.... I wonder if I can get up the courage to "bottom feed" (is it)? Must be chosen wisely. Heaven forbid one get extraordinarily lucky and win all when one expects to be lucky enough for 1...

There's a red table wine made high in the hills above Seixal (north coast) that is served in the restaurant up there. It is not sold in other parts of the island, or at least not when I was last there 2 years ago (although my friends were able to buy some to go, using a jug). As other posters have m...

Thank you Andy. I would definitely be interested in joining one of your gatherings. I will surely include you in my next madeira tasting. Nothing to compare to the awesome events I've read about on this site though. About 15 months ago I hosted a madeira tasting with friends, only one of whom was fa...

Thank you Alex and Jay. Actually I am in Los Angeles. (Not sure how to get my location showing). Anyway, yes Jay this was prompted by your initial thread. Having done vast quantities of research along the lines of what Alex outlined (that's also how I stumbled across this site - very nice benefit to...

I seem to recall, if memory serves me correctly, in 1996 there was a special release of 1969 (or thereabouts) Scotch from Port-wood and Sherry-wood casks (so 2 separate bottlings) and I believe it was under Glen Morangie or Glen something label but not Glenlivet. This was in a wineshop in Bloomsbury...

Port at auction

Hello Everyone. I am new to this site, having found it while searching for notes on old madeira (my first and foremost wine love, and Portugal/Madeira being one of my travel passions). I am curious about a thread I saw elsewhere, about port on auction, but didn't want to hijack that particular threa...

Ah, the good old Lisboa airport. Hopefully you will have a chance to slip into town on the way back between your flights. Have a great trip.

Apart from wine/madeira: 1. travel - Portugal/Madeira/Azores; France (Dordogne Valley); Krakow, Poland. 2. rowing (as in eights), though this really is difficult, organizationally, in southern California for some reason and hence is out of my reach. I did get to row in Lisbon a few years back (some ...

Hello Everyone. I am new here also, from the Los Angeles area. I happened across this site researching some notes on certain old madeiras. What a treat this is. Madeira is my first love in wine, and I've been subconsciously drawn to Portugal and Madeira my whole adult life. I finally got to go about...
