Re: White Port season coming up

Is this for the basic White Ports or is there a push by more producers to start making an aged white Port, such as the 10 Year Old White Port's that have recently shown up, which are causing the demand? Both Andy, for the basic and for the aged Whites. You know there some very interesting Aged Whit...

Re: White Port season coming up

White Port is gaining more and more fans and with repercussion on the price of the grapes. Regular white grapes are now more expensive than regular red grapes. Some years ago it was the other way around and because of that many vine growers decided to plant red vines where they were growing whites.

Symon, I can't answer to your question. I don't know and I'll probably never know which is the best Noval. But the 2007 Noval is a great Port, very complete and worth to try. You will not regret.

Re: 2010 Douro Weather Report thread

Ronald, sorry for my late answer. Rain is not a problem at this time of the year. It could be a problem if it rains too much during flowering, which could reduce the production. Or if it hails during the budbreak and shooting, damaging the vines. But we are still some weeks ahead of the budbreak. So...

Re: 2010 Douro Weather Report thread

It seems you're very well informed Roy! Good friends you have in the Douro. I'll give you my version of these last weeks. It's definitively been a wet Winter. It rained almost every day of December. Temperatures were considerably low, as it has succeed in all around Europe. At home I heard someone s...

I hope I can join you! Would love!

From what I tasted and heard from some producers 85 is already over the hill. But I must admit I can be wrong, I've tasted few 85's.

Re: A brand NEW Port

Ok, so it seems that the Noval black is a Reserve Ruby and the Midnight is a Ruby Port. Didn't know about this but it is not mandatory to use a traditional designation in Ports that are not special categories.

Andy, it does not make sense for us to change now to Pink. We are comfortable with Rose and some clients actually prefer it instead of Pink.

Re: Port business and Portuguese budget deficit?

HI Michael, I would say that there is no big relation as the domestic market represents only around 15% of the consumption. In any case, I don't see the Government increasing sharply the taxes on Port to rise revenues to reduce the deficit. The only relation I see is that the Portuguese budget defic...

Re: Another PINK?!?!?!

You can check here who has already registered Pink http://servicosonline.inpi.pt/pesquisas ... sp?lang=EN Write "pink" in the trademark field and fill in 33 in the classification. Plenty of brands approved, so now it's not a legal issue anymore, it's a marketing decision.

Re: A brand NEW Port

Good juice and a sexy package. Nowhere on the bottle does it say, "Ruby Reserve" or provide any clue as to which category it fits into, albeit the price does give that away. But it does mention that it contains Sulfites. 8--) A little bit weird that it doesn't mention the category, as I t...

Re: Another PINK?!?!?!

Nope, but how'd they get away with calling it "pink"? I thought TFP (The Fladgate Partnership) had a trademark on the combo Pink Port as a name for these types of light ruby Ports? TFP had at the beginning. But after some appeals from different producers they can no longer claim the use o...

I would say that those filters would not change the flavors of the wine. But I don't have empirical experience as I never use filters when decanting.
