Re: Croft Pink

And this looks SO much like a Port bottle....not, it looks like a whisky bottle. And OMG it has a glass closure instead of a cork. I'm not knocking TFP for the bottle design, it's attractive, but it's still decidedly not what anyone would associate with Port. As I also mentioned, that could...

Re: Croft Pink

Brad, Actually, when you look at Pink/Rose Port packaging, it's very similar to other Ports. Ruby's often use red on their labels, white's often use green, and Pink/Rose use pink. All use clear glass bottles to show the contents. Tom, I disagree. Most people who start out drinking wine or Port don'...

Re: Croft Pink

When the first Rose ports were launched, they didn't just affront the traditions of port - they were downright awful wines. Since then, one or two producers have managed to produce offerings that are dry enough not to be sickly, and lack the 'off-notes' that characterised the earliest products. But...

Croft Pink

So I finally tried this Port, and all I had as a reaction was, very simply, why??? Humor aside, while I love that someone did something new for the first time in ages in the Douro (other than making dry wines, or garrafierra), this is not at all a good wine, and frankly is a poor mixer with tonic as...

I love JJ Prum. My only regret is they're tough to get in Texas. For some reason there's not a big Riesling market down here.

Re: April/May 2017 VT: Any VP from SFE

1977 Graham it is! Decanted at 10:30. The quality control sample shows no sign of VA (an oft-mentioned complaint about this Port), but it does need some air. Ripe strawberry and red raspberry on the nose along with a bit of alcohol. There's an abundance of soft, ripe fruit on the palate, but at the...

2000 Cockburn Qta do Canais VP

Perfect Cork, decanted 10 hours. Color, perfectly dark Nose: Plenty of black fruits, some pie spices. Palate: Not the most complex, plenty of dark fruit and pie spices, like a fresh and fragrant blackberry pie, medium body and young but not unapproachable levels of tannin. Fun for the youth, vigor a...

1985 Warre VP

Decanted 6 hours. Ideal Cork, recent release as indicated by new label and distributor statement. Quite youthful color, mostly opaque. Nose: Fruitcake, black licorice, raspberry jam and noticeable heat. Palate: Warm entry, plenty of fruit transitioning to more of a , lighter body, still a decent amo...

TN: 2014 Aveleda "Charamba" Douro Red

Decanted 1 Hour Color: Red and youthful, 80% opaque. Nose: Some sour cherry, a bit of brambley berries Palate: Nice fruity entry, decently tannic mid palate with a slightly green cherry note, working into a drying brambly finish. A simple, enjoyable wine that drinks not unlike a cooler year Bordeaux...

Re: New Year's Port Resolution

In celebration of Graham's declaring the 2015 Stone Terraces, I ordered 3 more bottles of 2011 Graham's Stone Terraces. D'ohh! Not counting the last buying op I'm still down for the year, so I'm making (very slow) progress! I'm amazed there were still three out there you hadn't roped up yet [emoji1...

Croft Pink, which my wife won at our store's cocktail night competition. Re: S. Leonardo Tawnies

I figured once d'ouro vino started importing, they'd pop up at some retailers, since it sounded like the buying op was going to be a kickstart for bringing a bunch of their wine in for retail, on premise, etc. I'll shoot them an email and find out how to find some. S. Leonardo Tawnies

Hi all, I've recently shared some of the silly good S. Leonardo Tawnies with some wine folks here in Texas, and they're now clamoring to buy some of their own. I've looked on wine-searcher, but am seeing almost no US entries. Anyone know of a retailer or two that carries them at the moment? Preferab...

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170406/ee9cb7109b62f1ba2f5cb7f3edf94413.jpg It wasn't all Port, but for about $450 after tax, it made the trip to Austin well worth it! Particularly silly was our employee discount on the Smith Woodhouse, where the Mag was cheaper than the 750! Too bad it was the ...

Re: 2005 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas VP

The clear plastic, or clear sides with a colored top, was popular in the early to mid 2000's. It didn't last long though. I suspect the costs and that there really isn't a need for it caused it's demise. It must be a TFP thing, because the 2012 Fonseca Guimarens half I cracked open a few days ago h...
