Re: What have you opened this week?

NV Morgado 10 Years Old Tawny. For little money, it’s not bad. It's great for $10.99. An amazing price! Sogrape does not make bad wines. Maybe the occasional boring wine, but not flawed. I've had the other Morgado Ports in the past, and they were forgettable. These are correct and beyond many 10 ye...

Re: It is American Thankgiving this Week - Opening Anything Fun?

I just served a simple Morgado 10 years old tawny. Unfortunately at this time I don't have access to my cellar. :(

TN: 2003 Rio Bom Touriga Franca Douro Red

This wine was impenetrable on release. Still quite dark ruby. Beatiful nose of intense black cherry and melon, white flowers herbs, and orange peel. So suave in the mouth! Black cherry, chocolate, lemon, plums,. Good grip in the finish, but not really tannic like it was in the past. Extremely long f...

Re: What have you opened this week?

I had my tasting this weekend with my college buddies. We had the following Colheitas. 1937 Quinta do Noval 1944 Kopke 1955 Burmester 1968 Krohn's 1976 Krohn's 1982 Andresen 1994 Graham's Harvest The star of the night for me was the '76 Krohn's followed by the '68 Krohn's and then the '37 Quinta do...

2006 Quinta do Portal Vintage Port

2006 Quinta do Portal Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (8/27/2022) Well made. Blackberry nose. The palate has up front fruit and then it's clear that the wine is thin for a Vintage Port. OK, but just that. LBV Quality. Next day, some definite improvement! Med+ bodied. Again strong forward fru...

  • NV Viera de Sousa Porto 40 Year Old Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto (7/16/2022)
This wine was funky right from the beginning. It was very muted and not representative of what I have previous tastings of this Port. The next day - appears to be corked :( Not Rated

  • 2006 Niepoort Douro Redoma Branco Reserva - Portugal, Douro (7/16/2022)
Yellow color. Melon nose. Medium bodied. Apple and lemon flavors. Smooth finish. This was a surprise because 2006 was a difficult year and I had little hope of it being good. (90 pts.)

NV Bulas Porto 40 Year Old Tawny

NV Bulas Porto 40 Year Old Tawny - Portugal, Douro, Porto (7/16/2022) Bottled in 2017. Clear bronze color with dark yellow rim. High toned nose. Almonds palate! Very, very long and ethereal finish! The time in bottle has not helped this tawny. I preferred it when it was fresh, but this is still a m...

NV Casa de Sta. Eufemia Porto 40 Year Old Tawny

NV Casa de Sta. Eufemia Porto 40 Year Old Tawny - Portugal, Douro, Porto (7/16/2022) Bronze color. Bottled in 2019. Subtle herbal nose. Some, caramel. Long finish. A bit monolithic keeps it from getting a higher score. This bottle seemed a touch sullen, but opened up after a while. (93 pts.)

Dark ruby color. Slight rim and some browning. Wow! Outstanding! This is the best 1985 Dow's that I've tasted! A triumph! So many 1985 seem to be aging on a fast track, but clearly this Port will have a very long life. (95 pts.)
