Re: IF you have some time on your hands

That's awesome. I love retro-futuristic stuff. This is very interesting.

Re: Veneto Wines: Valpolicella and Amarone

Oh yeah, there's nothing like Amarone. I love Italian wines in general, there's something special about them. Very often great value too.

Re: 2010 Growing Season

If that thing blows, we'll have ash rain here in Norway. It's insane enough already, flights are cancelled all over Europe. And I really don't want that cranky mountain to mess with our grapes. But who knows? St Helen was about to blow a year or two ago, but nothing has happened so far... as far as ...

Re: HBO Mini Series: THE PACIFIC (Spoiler Alert!!!)

It's just impossible to imagine how they felt during that time. I've been really scared, but I bet it's nothing compared to what those guys felt every day. And while being scared, you still have to stay sane and make desicions. That's pretty tough. Did they actually kill that guy? That was a disturb...

Re: Portuguese Coffee ... is it any good?

Haven't tried any yet, but I love coffee, and I'm always trying to try different types. I don't drink it on a daily basis anymore, but when I do, I prefer freshly gound beans, and some cream.

I've just seen it (and I didn't read your post until I did.)
Yes, this was really intense. Some pretty disturbing scenes in this one. So many died or were injured.

TN: 2007 Niepoort Fabelaktig Douro

2010/4/19 A wine made for the Norwegian market by Niepoort. This is a cheap wine, so I had no expectations. About 24 hours decanted, it started to show well. It has a very fresh smell, like being in the forest after rain in the summer. I also get some pepper and burnt wood, like a campfire. Taste i...

Re: How often do you drink port?

I might have a LBV once every 2 weeks or so. I only drink VP's at dinners or parties, because I don't have many of them yet, and I'd rather share them with others.

Cellar values

There seems to be quite a few giant Port collections around here... have any of you thought about the value of your collection? And do you dare to share it?

Just a few hundred bucks here, so far.. but I intend to catch up.

Re: Is there any reason why ruby Port is not sold in a box?

That's a good question.
The tools are there, someone just has to use them. It would be a nice addition to the box wine world.
But yes, price matters.

Now it's a 1977 Dow's VP.
Not a lot of old wines available here.

Re: A beginner's cellar on a budget

Yes, that's good advice. And, if I really love it, it would be a shame if I only had the one bottle.
And yeah, it seems to me that SQVP's offer great value. Lots of great wines that are under the radar.

Re: 2007 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

It's seems to be one of the cheaper 2007's out there, and it hasn't got any press around here, so it won't be gone in seconds like the Noval.

Thanks for the TN. I wish I could be there tasting it, after reading that description. Sounds wonderful.

Re: Box Wines gaining traction

Yes, price and practicality. I usually prefer to buy bottles, but this is nice when I'm poor and just need some wine. And yes, it lasts a while, that's good.
Many wines are good enough, and some are pretty good. But if you're looking for 90pt wines, look elsewhere.

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Niepoort

2010/4/15 Bottled in 2010 My first tawny. It's probably the most available Port in the country, with their half bottles in every store. Strangely, there's only half bottles available... Slight leakage on the cork, but given the bottle age I don't think it affects the taste. Decanted for a couple of...
