Re: 2015 Port Harvest Tour 1 - Travelogue

That would be cool to try as I wonder really what the difference would be from a similar cold storage room. I would guess not much if Bern's very cold cellar is used as an indication. It probably depends on the exact temp as well. Even so, I would still expect water storage to be at least a little ...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

The level of port in my house had reached a unacceptable low level so I decided to buy a couple of bottles. I wanted to keep a low budget for this while also trying out some producers I haven't tasted before. This was the haul. 1999 Barão de Vilar Colheita - 13 USD 1999 Barros Colheita - 19 USD 2001...

Re: A gliimpse into the upcoming Port harvest 2015

I tried explaining my girlfriend what was going on in this thread and that it is very important to know if the 2015 vintage will be worth buying up before the average Joe reads a RP review and start pushing the prices up. She just gave me that look that only women can which pretty accurately transla...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Kopke has several excellent Colheitas since '70. I'm not particularly fond of "young" Colheitas, though, so I'll put an upper bound of 1990 on the list as well. Yes, I consider 25 years "young" for a Colheita. They're just coming into their own at that age... 30 is really prefer...

Re: A gliimpse into the upcoming Port harvest 2015

A what point would we outsiders gain information about if 2015 will be declared as a VP year by the different producers? I have read it is approximately around 1 year and 4 months after the harvest that the producers will send a sample to the IVP. Also how long is the process from the samples are se...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Just opened at Graham's 20 year Tawny port, to celebrate Port day 2015.

My first time tasting Graham's so quite exciting experience.

Some one smart once mentioned to me that it is easier to quickly increase the temperature of wine than it is to reduce it.

Re: visiting Porto and Douro

i have looked at some online sellers. i was talking about shops where i can go to. i like to hold things before i buy them :P Understandable. However, when it comes to buying wine/Port it's often best to shop online for the best deals and selections. I was like you when I first got into wine many m...

Re: Which producers do you think are most skilled at creating Colheitas?

I know that a fellowdane, Thomas put the Burmester in the Wishing-pot. Burmester is very Big i Denmark. A Danish Winemerchant had made a huge buy-in in Porto. And the Danish market is flooded with Burmester. True Allan, I think inexperienced port drinkers as myself might often mention Burmester whe...

Port Pictures

Good evening everyone. While being fairly new on this wonderful board of port aficionados I realized yesterday when I was about to leave for a port testing event, that there isn't a picture thread on the forum (Bash me on the head if I have missed it). I am aware of the Testing Note section where pe...

Re: Which producers do you think are most skilled at creating Colheitas?

I have not yet had the chance to taste a Colheita (Lucky me), but I am very surprised that none of you brought up Burmester.

I thought besides Kopke and Niepoort that they were regarded as a top Colheita house.

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Welcome Thomas! There are a lot or Port consuming Danes, and quite a few on this board too. Perhaps some of them will chime in here to offer some advice on what is available and a good buy there. While the learning curve for Port is steep, I don't think it is quite as big of a mountain as some of t...

Re: 1977 Dow Vintage Port

Thanks for the great TN, it is super for a beginner as me, to pick up hints and tricks for the decanting etc.

What is the reason for the 2nd tasting being better than the initial one?

What do you mean about cork tainting?

Cheers

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi Roy and thank you for your warm welcome. Lovely that you had a chance to visit Denmark. I do hope the weather was somewhat decent while you were here and you had some good food and tasted some beer from some of our smaller breweries. Which areas did you visit? I live in Aarhus the 2nd largest tow...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Greetings fellow port lovers. My name is Thomas I'm 33 years old and I live in Aarhus, Denmark. During the last couple of years my interest in red (Italian) and port wine has increased substantially and I am making my first baby steps as to acquire some port for my cellar. I find port very intriguin...
