TN: NV Broadbent Madeira Verdelho 10 Year Old

NV Broadbent Madeira Verdelho 10 Year Old - Portugal, Madeira (11/9/2020) Much more sweetness than should exist in a well made Verdelho. The citrus is good as is the acidity. It's a good wine with spicy food due to the sweetness. It will also work with high fat dishes due to the sweetness and the a...

Deal!

I somehow ended up with 6 different bottlers of the 1995 vintage. After having this one, I'm thinking it's time for a horizontal tasting.

That's a fantastic story Roy. Thanks very much for sharing it.

I noticed this sentence:
Seattle was then and still is now, one of the highest Port consuming communities per capita, in America.
Would that still be true if you moved? [rotfl.gif]

It's not. I just did a copy and paste of the notes and the title after the cross-post failed. Andy, anything you guys can do about that?

1985 Fonseca Porto Vintage

1985 Fonseca Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (3/13/2019) Served after a five-hour decant and left exposed to air. It's ridiculous how amazingly young this 34-year-old port is. Opaque purple with a dark ruby rim. The first thing that came to mind when smelling and tasting the wine was black l...

Served at this week's IWFS Chicago dinner. Double decanted and resealed 24 hours before service. This is really an amazing wine. The color was hard to deduce in the light, but looked like a medium brick red. There was still some alcohol heat on it, enough to tell you you're drinking a port. The pala...

1995 Caves São João Arinto Quinta do Poço do Lobo - Portugal, Beiras, Vinho Regional Beiras (6/3/2018) Soft cork that stuck to the bottle and broke. Needed to decant through a strainer. 1958 Martinez Vintage Port

Popped and poured by the host of a luncheon I attended yesterday. The bottle had a great fill, firmly into the neck. Initial impressions: Brownish red color. Alcohol heat was pretty strong. Held off at this point to give the wine some chance to come together. After 15 minutes of swirling: The heat h...

The 1980 GC is an outstanding wine. IMHO, it's the number 2 of the vintage behind the other-worldly Dow.

Re: TN: 1957 D'Oliveira Old Wine Vintage Madeira -- Tinta Negra Mole

Do we know that this is just Tinta Negra Mole? I just had the wine this afternoon at a luncheon iand my feeling was that it was primarily Verdelho with some TNM blended in. My notes: Decanted six hours ahead of service. Searing acidity dominates with any residual sweetness masked. Walnuts with the d...

Awesome event, and one of the most fun venues I've ever been at to drink Port wine, but were we on the port side of the ship? We were in the center of the ship, towards the front, in the room called The Board Room. It's great for luncheons and wine tastings. Anytime you're looking to hold a tasting...

Re: 40-year retrospective: Tasting the 1977 vintage in Chicago - November 3, 2017

Thanks, John, for organizing a great event! It was a whirlwind trip for me - literally only 20 hours in Chicago, 2 of which were spent commuting - but worth the effort. The Columbia Yacht Club is a great venue - it's on a ship! Very attentive staff and the room was plenty large for our group. Unfor...
