What is charme Bairrada? I assume a different wine than the other Charme? https://www.niepoort-vinhos.com/en/wines/ CHARME BAIRRADA The "Charme" from the Douro Valley tastes fantastic - so how about a "Charme" produced in the same way, but from a completely different terroir suc...

Re: Your favorite 2nd Tier Port House?

I have yet to try a Pintas. They seem hard to come by in my neck of the woods. I might have a 2017 that I won at auction, I have to check. That's no surprise, because their production is very limited: 2000 bottles for their 2018VP and 4000 bottles for their 2017! Both are great ports (and so are 20...

Re: Your favorite 2nd Tier Port House?

I base myself only on vintage ports for this evaluation. Then these two producers must (in my mind) be included in Tier 2, although they have "only" 15-20 years of history with their present labels. Quinta do Vale Meao (first vintage with their own set-up was 2000) Pintas (Wine & Soul...

Re: Noval VP 2016 vs. 2017

The only down side, for me at least is that the Noval usually take so long to really hit their prime. I'm almost 63, I could be dead before the '17 really starts to sing. But I'll buy some anyways. I'll try a few over the years and the rest my kids can sell at auction in 2044, lol. Who cares?! I am...

4 x 2011 Graham's The Stone Terraces Vintage Port These are getting harder to find. Someone from the Sammamish Port Club saw these in a local store and pointed me in the right direction. Possibly due to the virus making times difficult, I was given an industry discount (15%) for buying all 4 that t...

Re: TN: 2017 Quinta da Fonte Souto Portalegre Branco

So while I really liked the Branco and was stuck between 92 and 93 points ... and finally acquiesced to the higher score of 93; the Tinto was fantastic and I score it another point higher. I can only imagine this with a minimum of five more years and how good this will become. You've gotta try the ...

Dear Paul and other subscribers, .......My word and my apology may not be enough for some, but I realize how this looks and am deeply saddened to disappoint yet again. I have solid reasons, but they will only sound like excuses to those that don't know the back story, so there's no point to even go...

Thing of the past, ended today. Finally! Alas, I hoped for that! Unfortunately, that is not the case: subscribers were promised to have Newsletters end of July, end of October and end of December. You would expect Roy to keep that promise after all the fuzz and disappointment of 2018. Well: he didn...

Re: 2017 Vintage Port Forecast

Is it a Port that can be drunk while it's young or is it better off waiting? I ask because I'm now in my early 60's and it seems almost silly to buy any 2017 Ports if they need 20 or 25 years to properly enjoy. It's a great vintage from all that I've read, but will they be wasted on me? I don't hav...
