Re: FTLOP 14th Anniversary Tasting

I just wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to all that helped to make the event this weekend both possible and highly enjoyable. There was an embarrassment of riches in terms of delicious, unique, and old bottlings, as well as great company to enjoy them with. I know it took many hands, but I want to gi...

Re: FTLOP 14th Anniversary Tasting

Anyone interested in dinner in Bellevue Friday night? [cheers.gif] I'll be around and would love to meet up. Any particular ideas? Anyone else interested? Awesome, Brad. It's been a while! [friends.gif] And of course, the more, the merrier! I was thinking either Taylor Shellfish Oyster Bar or Ascen...

You can always take a peek in their forums as well if you have trouble in the future. They often mention any hiccups in there.

Re: FTLOP 14th Anniversary Tasting

Glenn mentioned some self-directed activities being an option on Friday or Sunday (or both!). I just booked my flight and would be available for both evenings, and would love to drink some additional Port with anyone willing. Any ideas or volunteers? Coming from out of town makes it tough for me to ...

Great note. Did you think it had faded at all after being bottled in small format for the past 5 years?

Re: 2016 vs 2017 VP

The only SBS I’ve been able to have between 2016 and 2017 was the Rozes 2016 SQVP v. The 2017 VP and SQVP, and the 2017s were head and shoulders better. Obviously, they aren’t a top of the heap producer of VP, but it was interesting nonetheless.

Re: FTLOP's OFFICIAL 2017 Vintage Port thread

Was fortunate enough to attend a Port event in Houston today where Ramos Pinto, Niepoort and Rozes poured a total of 5 2017 VPs. I thought the Ramos Pinto VPs were very floral, clean in mouthfeel, and approachable, considering the massive youthful structure. The Niepoort was also rather approachable...

It’s been some time since I’ve been able to attend a Seattle based tasting, but I’d love to come up if there’s still space!

Re: 1947 Vintage

I’ve had a Cockburn ‘47 before, purchased through The Chicago Wine Company, but unfortunately it was DOA upon opening. I’d definitely consult Wine-searcher.com or it’s pro service to see who’s got what available online.

Re: Finger Lakes, New York

Having worked for a winery there myself for a bit, I miss the area. Such wonderful whites, dessert wines and bubbly, even if I didn’t usually care for the red efforts (Pinot is getting better though!). NY has some really progressive rules for “farm winery/Brewery/distillery” businesses, where, assum...

1994 Quinta do Vesuvio VP

This bottle was purchased from a local retailer, who acquired it on release and has kept it in their actively controlled storage since. Retailed for a very reasonable $100. Purchased as a birth year Wine to share with my little brother, who passed his level 1 somm exam the other day. Perfect cork, 4...

Re: Important NEW RULES on tax consequences of wine in USA

While I agree, Eric, that I don't tend to derive much enjoyment from hyper alcoholic, overly ripe wines, it also never struck me as making sense anymore to have a cutoff at 14% abv. That originally came into being at a time when unfortified wines were rarely, if ever, going to achieve that level of ...

If I could add Tian Lewis to the list, he's going to come with me as well. He'll be hunting for a '77 to bring.
