Re: Do you remember your very first FULL CASE purchase of Port?

My first full case was Dow 1963, bought in 1975 for £36 from Corney & Barrow. I had the last bottle in 2003 and it could easily have done a further 20 years.

2003 Cockburn's Quinta dos Canais Vintage Port

2003 Quinta Dos Canais (60% Touriga Nacional) : Heavy rich violet nose then figs and violets, well balanced already showing signs of how it might mature. (This was good value and I did buy some). 1977 Cockburn's Vintage Port

1977 VP : spirity nose, light but a very great sweetness that seems to me to characterise the '77s. Better than Warres but not as good as Grahams (both of which I have tried in the last month). NB The observant amongst you will have remembered that Cockburn did not declare a vintage in 1977; none-th...

1983 Cockburn's Vintage Port

1983 : Excellent all round, will definitely keep, not as good as the Grahams '83 but still excellent.

1995 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port

Has anybody had this recently? Lay & Wheeler are selling 6 bottle cases at £12 per bottle which seems quite reasonable.
Any thoughts on how long it might keep?
Thanks.

Re: What is your view of the "longevity" of 1977 Vintage Ports?

I've had some three cases of Warres 1977, all well stored. By the end all were weeping and the corks were in poor condition. The wine was OK but nowhere near as good as the original hype or the current price. If you can get them at around £30 a bottle it might be worth buying a few.

Re: Who is currently putting Ports away for their children?

I have a fairly selfish attitude to this question. I assume that I'm immortal and thus I will continue to buy and consume port regardless of my age. If events prove otherwise then my daughter (b.1977) and son-in-law will have whatever is left.

Re: Forum Upgraded - Still cleaning things up

Is it possible to do something about the number of banners on the page? With the FTLOP and phpBB (who they?) banners, each of which has a search function, and then the forum heading (with another search button), one only sees a couple of items in the forum before having to scroll down - even less if...

I would go for the zero option. I had three cases of this wine and overall they have been a disappointment. I had the penultimate bottle two nights ago and found it very spirity with little fruit left. For the past year, I have not got a cork out whole and many of them are weepy. I would only consid...

Richard you're almost right. In fact the gentlemen remained at the dining table and enjoyed their port and/or brandy and cigars, while the ladies withdrew. When the gentlemen had had their fill, the time honoured remark was 'Shall we join the ladies?'
