Brought a 2011 Ferreira LBV and a 2003 Boira Colheita to a christmas party last Saturday. I hardly got a glass of each before they were gone.

On Friday, we had 1948 Fonseca VP. Wow what a port. The color was so young, you'd think it was fin '66 or something. Was all that it was supposed to be; 98 points.

After dinner and wine, plus an old Vin Santo, we felt a need for a port. It would have to be a pop and pour but did not feel like making a decision so I gave my friends a choice: 2003 Taylor's LBV or a 2003 Churchill's VP. I told them I have more of both so they should feel free to pick either.

Decision: the Churchill's. I've never had it before so I can't say how it has evolved but we did feel that it was in a lighter vein. Hopefully the next time will involve a healthy decant and a better imp[ression.

Burmester vintage character, bottle believed to date from the 1970s

Part of a mixed auction lot of well cellared VP, I accorded it very little value - but what a surprise!

A tad sweet, but otherwise could easily have passed for a 40yr old VP, a perfectly mature quaff..

For Christmas eve - a Taylor '24 - excellent colour, if a tad hot..

After waiting 90 years since bottling, it was consumed within three hours..
