Father's day

Post by Luc Gauthier »

1st time since 2006 that I've celebrated father's day without port ...
Hopefully this is a temporary setback [beg.gif]
Vintage avant jeunesse/or the other way around . . .

I finished off a bottle of 1968 Krohn Colheita. It was overcast and cool here in the Seattle area, so perfect Port weather!

Having grown up in NE Nebraska, I can say with confidence that some weather is not suitable for anything at all, including Port. MAYBE a cold beer, if you like beer. But I found that even a cold Coke doesn't help much in 114-degree weather! (I was a lifeguard so was able to cool off in the pool periodically, but still... even drinking cool water isn't all that satisfying in temperatures over 110 degrees.)

I think we hit 102 yesterday with another 4-5 days to follow. I thought briefly of a White port and tonic, but decided on a Bear Republic 00 Pilsner instead. I was going to smoke some ribs, but made a Chicken Ceaser Salad instead. Sparkling Limeade was the drink of choice by then.
