1987 Niepoort Colheita
Bottled in 2001.
Color: Light/thin red, some tawny notes. Almost ruby.
Nose: Thin, not much there. Prominent alcohol, mostly neutral. Some dusty oak.
Palate: Quite warm, pretty sweet. Almost cloying. Unusually simple for a Niepoort. Some mild spice, but not primary. Tasty, but not what I expect from Niepoort.
Finish: Fairly long, some ruby notes. Tannins.
Score: 87 points. This seemed like an abnormal bottle to me, but I really have no reason to think that. It just wasn't anything like what I expect from a Niepoort Colheita, most notably lacking the complexity and constantly evolving flavors that I normally find in them. It's been in the bottle for 9 years, though, so it might just be in a bit of a funk.
